Forever in my life Does anybody, perhaps a musician, know if there is a term for the chorus-before-verse thing on Forever in my life.
Has it ever been done on other songs by him or other artists? It seems to beg for a try at repeating it, but I can't think of a single song using that trick.

Are you talking about the way he sings 2 different parts throughout the verses? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

or the backing vocal is singing the line before the lead vocal? If so I agree.....so simple its astounding. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

It's not a canon really, but I don't think it has any special term.
Personally, I think he, again, recorded everything else, except for the main vocal part, first and then told everyone to leave the studio, so that he could record the vocals by himself, only to discover that he had made a mistake by one bar when recording the backing vocals.

It was a flat out technical error on Susan Roger's part, but Prince liked the result and ergo....that's the version we know.

It was Prince who asked for the BV's to be muted while he layed down the lead vocal, and he's just as much to blame for miscounting the intro bars before singing (probably more so). However, they both loved the result of this error. Good job too, because it created such a unique and interesting quality to the song.
