All Day-All Night-All Week........... 1st-before i even mention any music-i'm sorry if you can't hear what were talking about-i really am. Wish it was a world we could share EVERYTHING freely-but it aint-so I start this thread not out of malice towards anyone that does not have access to the sounds-but out of the fact i'm kinda buzzed by this latest release
Magnifique .....next to Conga Room-its my fave boot this year. Amazing sound. After the recent 'taster' my hopes were low-so what a suprise to hear it. The crowd sound amazingly good-a brilliant vibe-and man the backing singers at times sound superb. Mountains.....WOW-especially with the acoustics of le grand palais. A pretty brill Purple Rain too. I've only heard it through once-and i have to say-a brilliant gig in all senses. I can't quite get over how good they did on this release and yeah-just hearing Cigale-and it is even better thaN the previous one

he does it with him-a guitar-and the amazing crowd. Man when they chant-the acoustics make the hairs on the back of my neck dance along-its sooooo great

and hearing Mountains-the backing-again the acoustics make the linn clap sound perfect
i criticised the vanue at 1st-hearing this i completely take it back-sounds like a REAL special one

yes this one is surprisingly good ... i was expecting nothing from prince until next year as far as new interesting or listenable shows go ... all day all night is done kinda the way he did 'mountains' on that promo special a few weeks back ... guitar and singers ... its nice to hear some lyrics instead of just the chant ... actually a couple songs from this show get some new life and he even says "until that day u can go to HELL" on guitar ...maybe he is loosening up a bit ... i always get mad when he says dumb stuff like "the christ" instead of "the cross" or when "her bangs bounce" instead of "when her titties bounce" on peach ... just doesnt capture the song when he does dumb shit like that .. i get the whole christ thing ... christ nailed to cross and we worship the cross but its laughable considering there was no christ in the first place ... its like he does research but still doesnt go beyond the bible which is designed for opression .. and is completely false ... anyway the one u wanna c gets some life too in the guitar vocals treatment even tho the lyrics are shallow ego bull as usual lately ... i liked him better when he was singing "i aint got no money, not like those other guys u hang around, its kinda funny they always seem to let u down" now hes trying to get women by telling them he is rich BORING DUDE ... i always thought since prince is so talented why not write new song about christ or bangs that is better than the cross or peach but he never goes that rout he just keeps butchering his old tunes ... its not right prince .. so thanks to the internet i do think prince is finally getting the honest feedback he needs and i get the feeling he is starting to appreciate how good his past work has been ... maybe we'll get a paul mccartney type rebirth and a decent album out of it ... still i kind of think maybe its the pills etc... maybe he got so off all these years due to some kind of secret addiction as what happened to paul and dylan
its good to hear him reexplore songs like i feel for u and why u wanna treat me so bad so fully and with heart ... www.trevorayer.org

It's a pretty good recording and there's a ton of good stuff there. Wish I could have been there.
There some bad mixed in with the good, though. I was really excited when I heard he did Girl, but after listening to it, I hope he puts it back on the shelf. And what's the deal with the constant directions to his techs? Turn her mic up! Turn the lights down! Turn the guitar up! Turn the harmonica up! It gets damn distracting. I love some of the stripped-down songs, like Mountains and I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (although this latter one is a song that should never be under 2 minutes; come on!). I absolutely love his version of Long Train Running. He kills that. [Edited 11/21/09 10:26am]

Yeah-makes me wonder too about the same thing.....
when he keeps asking for keyboards up-i wonder if the sound man has messed up-and has keys up full-so-to get em' louder-all the other channels need to come down a bit-i can't think of any other reason it takes sooooo long-although-as he never does the same show.... when you normally work a desk-you do a plan-and noted where your cues are to make changes-and with digital boards -you can programme some changes but thats easy when the set is always the same-so i dont hold it against em'-in fact-i kinda like the organic-always improving aspect of how he does it

A lot to get through so let’s start at the top. First off we have the second show from the two that Prince played on the 11th at Grand Palais. It’s a very respectable effort and qualifies for the EX rating it’s being given. As a bit of an audiophile, what keeps this back from any EX+ (at least for me) is I feel the stereo is a little narrow and the bass is maybe just a little too strong in places. Call me picky, but that’s how I see it. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a sharp and clear recording and considering the difficulties of the venue (echoes galore, to be expected from a large, glass building) the taper has done an admirable job. The show itself is fairly typical of Prince’s performances this year, I Feel For U, Controversy etc are all present and correct as well as the usual covers being wheeled out for the umpteenth time. The recurrent chants of ‘All Day, All Night’ start to annoy after a while but it’s all in good fun so can’t complain too much (and it’s great to see ‘Mountains’ in there). Regardless of that, Prince is in good spirits and is clearly having fun and there’s no taking away from him that he’s still great live, no matter how many times you’ve heard the material. The highlight of the set, though is the acoustic portion. Not had a lot of this since the Musicology tour and it’s always good value hearing some of his more famous songs played this way. Overall, a solid effort. Disc 2 is a huge let down. Eye don’t have a complete version of Show #1 on offer, so what we get here is a collection of what they did manage to get and I’m not sure it was worth it. The quality really isn’t that good compared to the rest. The audience are very prominent, Prince sounds as if he’s miles away and overall it just isn’t that clear. We can be thankful they captured Girl as this is the only highlight of this recording, the rest is just as you’d expect. The remainder of the disc is made up of straight audio rips of Prince’s various promotional appearances in Paris ranging from the RTL show to his Canal+ performance. Disc 3 see us onto the 3rd show of his Paris visit, performed at La Cigale on the 12th. This show has already been released by Free Boot Generation here and comparing the two isn’t as straight forward as you’d like, as both have their ups and downs. This recording suffers none of the audience problems (in particular, the screaming woman) that FBG’s had but on the flip-side, I find that their recording was just a little clearer and crisper. It’s a little hard to choose between the two really so I guess it’s up to personal taste so this receives a more than fair EX-rating. As commented in the other review, the show itself if an absolute stunner. It’s been a while since he’s pulled out a performance like this and it’s simply a joy to listen to. You won’t find a better or more tightly performed show from the man this side of 2004. Sure, there’s a few too many covers again but it’s all done with such grandeur and fun you really won’t care. Dics 4 finishes of the rest of the La Cigale show and then fills the rest with er, well.....filler. The Montreux stuff just doesn’t need to be on here especially when it’s nothing more than a straight rip of the videos from LF.com. Nothing has been done to them, improvement wise, and even the glitch during Peach has been left in. Really, sometimes more is less but seeing as these guys are in it for the money, I don’t see their habits changing any day soon. So what are we left with here. Overall, it’s a solid release from Eye Records, with some great quality recordings but again you’re left with the nagging feeling of it all been a little hurriedly put together. Eye always get dangerously close to releasing a stunning set but consistently, at least recently, let themselves down by either the lack of care or unnecessary filler. At the end of the day it’s not the perfect release we were hoping for but certainly worth owning, if only for Show #2’s quality. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Sadly.....
i fear-if the recent 'appatizer' we heard from Sab's 1st show is anything to go by-and the 1st show tunes on here-make the most of this 2nd show. I thought the sound on that appetizer was too bad to listen to this show though-i've blasted out every day since getting it

I agree with the review for the most part--the sound quality with the bass is spotty in areas but when the sound is good OMG what a musical treat! He can certainly still deliver in concert when he wants! Wish I was there; sure hope he decides to do it somewhere in the States next year!

Yeah, I caught that too. Always thought the song was about Mayte, but she was technically the 90s. Then again Prince has selective, faulty memory... Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

I'm making my way through it this morning. The sound is very good so far and Prince seems to be in a good mood on the 11th gig. I very much enjoyed 'Anotherloverholenyohead', a song I've never really cared for. He rocks it here. Looking forward to hearing the rest and will post more thoughts later.
