so i got ONA LIVE. here's what i think. this will be brief. ok so i got it. the first thing i wanted to hear was Joy In Repition. wow!!! i've never heard that live before. blew me away. then the Clinton track and the Musiq track ok fine. then the rest is nothing but jamming. it almost , to me, sounds like the same song but played with different heads on them. although they are funky jams, it's kind of boring.
now for the double cd - it's great but i do hear things i'm surprised at ie Extraordinary: his voice seems to be struggling. i've never heard P struggle vocally before. hmmm. and all that name change stuff ("Rebecca!") before Family Name. look i'm all for the TRUTH but to be kind of putting folk down like that ain't cool. what i do love is the piano medley. it reminds me of the show in London alot. and it's the first time i've heard Xenophobia, Avalanche and One Nite Alone. these tracks i like a lot. and there are other very funky bits which i love. but for fifty pounds, i'm not sure if it's value for money. nice book inside, i guess.

I'm listening to the set for the first time too. I've resisted temptation (i.e. playing Joy In Repetition) first and am playing through from the start. I'm on the second disk first, and so far so good.
I guess ONA piano CD will have to wait for work tomorrow, because my wife's due home from work soon and she doesn't like Prince :O Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

did you take her to the shows? i took my girlfriend (who has been to the Lovesexy show at Wembley), doesn't really dig P that much until October 3, 2002. i think the statement after the show was was, "yes Prince...be my Lord". LOLOLOLOL!!!

There was no chance to take her to a show. We're living in Singapore. The only time I've seen Prince play was in Melbourne, my home town, back in 1992. It's time that I made an effort and travel to see him! Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

LOLOLOLOL!!! LOL milty that's sublime. I took my girlfriend also but I didn't get her to say those words... although she was crying when Prince played Purple Rain. She was even sobbing during When you were mine, when P says "I don't care, cuz I love you baby that's no lie"... Come to think of it... my girl was also in tears during Nothing Compares 2 U... What a night! Peace Antoon. 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

First off I have to say that JIR and Strange Relationship are kind of worth the money alone, but on the other hand I agree with a fair bit of what u have said. The rest of the aftershow is nice, but a a bit dull - and why does he start Girls and Boys half way through??? I mean he had obviously been playing the song and the crowd were singing along before they pressed record - what's with that?? As for the main show - I love the first disk - although Rainbow Children live doesn't do as much for me as the studio version. The second disk I was really looking forward to but there r only moments that I feel anything, and they r short moments. As for his voice on Extrodinairy - I read someone else saying the same thing, but I'm not sure it is that his voice is struggling - it reminded me immediately of his vocal on Scandalous - which a reviewer at the time described as singing with a 'throat full of broken glass' -I think it is the vocal sound he was after - which is borne out by the fact that he put it on the disk. I like the effect myself - it's great that the one man can produce so many voices.
