There seems to be quite a lot of copies of this about - has it been bootlegged?

The withdrawn promo remix 12” single of Pope and Pink Cashmere is one of the most highly sought collector’s items on the market. With an instant high market value as soon as it escaped, this 12" single was pressed in London, England (unusual in itself for Warner promos) in April 1994. One of the reasons it is so rare is that its tiny print run of 250 copies was withdrawn and recalled. Some Warner Bros. representatives had handed out the single already and hence some made it onto the market. The actual amount that made it to the public is debatable, but is believed to be in the region of 80 - 140.



Seeing as there are 140 of these, it's not suprising to see it pop up a lot. This is one of my favorite pieces in my collection:

of note is that the mixes are not available anywhere else? (correct me if i wrong).

Agree, it's a horrid mix, but the fact that it's an official 'version' but not widely available is of interest to some! One of the reasons i got into prince was the collecting factor of discovering all the songs/versions he'd released (even if they were bad), i've moved onto unreleased/live stuff now, although the recent dance 4 me mixes are of collecting value to me.

OK. The Pope remix must be the one that goes "A loop is a loop is a loop", right? Is the Pink Cashmere remix on The Work set or Work It set releases or another boot? If so, which CD? I want to give it a listen... I'm not asking where do I find so and so bootleg, I just want to keep my official remixes straight.

Yes, The "Pope" remix is about 6 minutes and some odd seconds and starts with "a loop is a loop is a loop" and it's looped I don't know if the "Pink cashmere" remix is on The Work but it is reggae version. If the version on The Work is reggae then it's the same thing.

AFAIK there is a "real" spanish promo cd single of pope. It did not feature the remix version but the 3'28" hits/bsides version.
There was a fake pretending to be a german promo featuring the remixes a few years back, but this was just homemade rubbish made by a time waster to bilk Prince collectors.
