Favorite or Best Rehearsal Does anyone have a favorite rehearsal or think one tops the whole era it was recorded in or of all time?
For me, the Rehearsal for the June 7 BDay concert May/June (different from the video rehearsal bootleg) He kills on the 'Erotic City/All the Critics Love U in New York' and 'Something in the Water Does Not Compute' Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

The question was, "Does anyone have a favorite rehearsal or think one tops the whole era it was recorded in or of all time?", and that was my answer.

That rehearsal that´s circulating as "Neon Rendezvous" with the long, guitar heavy version of Something In The Water, Gotta Shake This Feeling,Noon Rendezvous and Erotic City is by far my favorite rehearsal and I still play it regularly.
That should be released in crystal clear quality one day. It´s a perfect reflection of his art and the time or era it was performed in. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I love the 1983/84 rehearsal with a punk version of When Doves Cry ("How could you just leave me standing alone in a world that's so fuckin' cold?!?...This is what it sounds like when doves scream!") and Let's Go Crazy with a funny intro speech(There's something else...Yo Mom...A sexy woman with long hair, big legs, greasy lips, all that. So when you call that up nigga in beverly hills...)
Also the When the Saints piano/vocal warmup cracks me up. Chili Sauce.

'When the Saints' are soo harlirous...Also the 'Let's Go Crazy Rehearsal' during the 'God' segment where Prince yells at Lisa to put the 'muthafuckin magazine and do your part!' I enjoy listening most rehearsals (the process of creating, getting better), but favorites are the ONA's. Man I like that tour, so definitely these rehearsals. What was good back in those days, was the time he took to interact with the audience - and the 'Late Ladies' ("Oh, that's not Prince"), I think he'd never done that anymore that much.
Personal high light is the 'EVERYWHERE' 1-ocassion during the Oberhausen rehearsal. On the 1 hand I was disappointed that they did not sing, but on the other hand I'm so glad that at least ones the song's been performed. Salsa! [Edited 12/1/09 5:08am]

WOW! There r so many cool rehearsal versions of cuts it's crazy! All of those mention so far r some of my favorites. Alot of those unreleased and yet circulating rehearsals with The Revolution r classic. They were interesting and great 2 hear. Most of those rehearsals from 1983-1986 were great 2 my ears. These r just a few more of many cuts that I like and in no order:
1. 'White Girls' jam from 1984 2. 'Love or $' rehearsal version from 1985 3. 'G-Spot' rehearsal version from the summer of 1983 4. 'D.M.S.R' rehearsal version from the summer of 1983 5. 'Strange Relationship' rehearsal version from 1987 6. '17 Days' rehearsal version from 1984 7. 'When We're Dancing Slow' rehearsal version from 1984 8. 'Possessed' from rehearsal version from 1984 9. 'Neon Rendezvous' rehearsal version from 1984 10. 'Head' and 'Lady Cab Driver' rehearsal version from 1983 (bonus cut) 'Lovesexy' rehearsal versions from 1988

Hmmm, a tricky one. Either SOTT 21:2:87 or Parade 3:3:86. The Parade one is a sorta rehearsal

I have to add that some of those SOTT and Lovesexy rehearsals that came out are just stellar. I still love when they're learning and rehearsing "The Sex Of It". The earlier SOTT rehearsals are more fun because he's doing more SOTT material, and the arrangement of "Beautiful Night" is more true to the album version w/ the Revolution, than the sped up version we know from the movie.

I think my favorite rehearsal was "I Would Die For U" (don't know what bootleg its from) but its the rehearsal where Wendy does the guitar solo in the beginning, then Lisa does her melody, then the horns do their thing, then Sheila does her thing on congas and timbale's. The quality is sooooo clear and the rehearsal sounds better than the live because the harmonies are sooo tight and no one is off key like they are sometimes live.

Is that the original 30 minute version of "I Would Die 4 U", that was cut down to 10 minutes for the 12"? I'm actually not too familiar w/ the Purple Rain rehearsals too much, so I'm not sure what's out there. Did Purple Rush have rehearsals on it?

too hard to choose jsut one but yes the Sex of It rehearsal is magical as well as that one with the punk When Doves Cry and also the one where he does Electric Intercourse a couple of times....just lots of great stuff better than most of his albums for sure.

@ ernestsewell, I think that's the one because it lasts 10 minutes and they are just jamming it out but it cuts off after 10 minutes. It was sounboard quality and all the background vocals had reverb/echo on them and their harmonies were perfect.

I also liked the "Erotic City" rehearsal from like '83 or '84. I don't know what bootleg its from because someone gave it to me like 10 years ago. I liked the way they were jamming, and when Wendy and Lisa were singing the female part (Sheila wasn't on it), Prince says "Get on pitch. We need to get on pitch"! The bass Mark did was funky!
