From following the man's music over many years and seeing his changes of attitudes towrds his raunchy lyrics and swearing, I wonder if the "dirty Prince" was all an act and the "good Prince" that he is now was what he has always been.
(I'm not saying whether he was truly dirty or good I'm just refering to the 2 different sides of Prince)

The Black Album/Lovesexy is one example of him at the time knowing what was "bad" and what was "good" and portraying those opposites to us so we can somehow learn from that.
To then "slip" back into dirty lyrics and swearing seems odd if it was not an act.

Even far back in the Purple Rain tour, after singing a "dirty" song he had a conversation with God (similar to at the end of Around The World In A Day) where he was saying he was sorry for being bad and launched into the song 'God'.

He is a genius and maybe crafted his whole career in order to teach us right from wrong in the (fake and true) personas known as Prince.

Also I think part of the "act", if it were one, was to get himself noticed.
He said in an interview that's why he went on stage in women's underwear!

I always figured him for a sheep in wolf's clothing.

A Middle-aged man's viewpoint of his youthful self is interesting, but shouldn't be the final word, it's seen through a particular prism just like any other opinion.

Absolutely correct.

Was dirty Prince an act? Ha! Ha! No, I believe not! First off, we must all remember that he is a Gemini! Which we, like myself have two sides to our personalities. My husband, say 4! 2 Gemini's for each of the one's that we have. Anyway, I have been following Prince for many if years and have every album. Including the one before the "For You" Lp he does not like to speak of! You see, my father was a Prince fan, and I fell to be one when I saw him on the cover of an album in a raincoat, underwear and chain around his waste. Can't forget the poster of him in the shower. Who remember this quote? " All of this and more, is for you. With Love sincerity and deepest care. My life with you, I share." Which album did that come from? I have been a fan since 9 and this so-called good Prince has always been but the dirty Prince had always been there too. It us just the other Gemini, wanting to be out for a change. But either way he turns, I still love and respect the man.

Well I think he just always had a wild side that he never got to express in his youth & was making up for loss time - & what with being a musician, it's encouraged to to wear edgy clothes so he just thought "why the hell not?" & went all out for the sake of it I suppose.
