Unplugged, and such While cruising through my Prince tunes tonight, "7 (Acoustic version)" came on. I always loved that version. Then I cued up "Space (Acoustic Mix)", then I cued up "Love (Acoustic)", then "Reflection (with Wendy Melvoin)" (Tavis). I thought man, Prince REALLY needs to do the MTV Unplugged thing. Or Soulstage, or SOMETHING. He's always done a piano or guitar medley in his shows, so why not do a full on, mood lighting, sheer curtains, leather couch, 300 people, acoustic unplugged show???
There are so many songs that translate well into acoustic formats. A few to name: "Take Me With U", "The Dance" (those strings!), "Love, Thy Will B Done", "When Doves Cry", "Pop Life", "Raspberry Beret", "Anotherloverholenyohead", "Sometimes It Snows In April" (which is pretty much acoustic and unplugged anyway), "Strange Relationship", "Forever In My Life", "I Wish U Heaven", "The Question of U", "Joy In Repetition".....and a host of others. It's ripe with opportunity. The first four songs I mentioned in the first paragraph make a decent little acoustic sounding EP. Throw in naturally acoustic arrangements like "Sometimes It Snows In April", and "Forever In My Life", and it gets better. He could really resurrect the Unplugged show with a 2 hour shin dig. Palladia would rerun it in high def, which would be even more stellar. There'd be a DVD and a CD, which fans would certainly buy. As a side note, it's a stellar opportunity to have the one big REUNION we've all wanted (wink). Two birds, one stone. Let the revolution be televised. Eh, just a thought.

I'll second that, I was listening to the recent Mountains and Feel Good performances from Paris yesterday and they sounded just like an old MTV Unplugged to me. I really do think the backing vocals (esp Elisa) make those versions though... Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I think MTV did ask him to be a part of the Unplugged series but nothing ever came of it.
The Art Of Musicology show was a great teaser of how great he coud be unplugged. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Even if it was souly a combination of the Acoustic sets from the Musicology Tour it would sell in buckets.
I think these sets really show Prince's humour to the fore as well as his creativity and we won't even mention his skill on guitar. I have been begging for this for years or rather hoping, ever since I caught The Cure doing there set, way back. I still live in hope. The right to free discussion is protected!!

Ah, those were the days... when they actually had Music on M(usic)TV!
The acoustic show at one of the PP Celebration a few years ago showed that Prince would make a great Unplugged performance. I'd also like to see him do a Storytellers show, giving anecdotes about the recording process and inspiration for various songs.

A very good idea. I think back in the day, they became a bit commonplace, but it has been a while now and you're right - he could ressurect the whole thing. And with enough of the hits on it, it would sell, sell, sell.

funnily enough-at the moment I've been listening to George Michaels unplugged show-and I still listen to Nirvana's unplugged show regularly-have done since it came out.
So I've always felt Prince should do this

Yes, of course.
I just watched, "Ashford & Simpson," on the PBS telethon the other night. I just love those guys. If Prince did something like this...You can call in for a dvd or cd. It's just another way to be recognized and appreciated as great talent. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...
