Revelation or remasters?

Which will come to pass first, Prince remasters or the book of Revelation?

Depends if Prince dies before that or not.

Didn't Chronic Freeze inform us recently that most of the early albums wouldn't benefit greatly from remastering, due to all the master tape levels riding the red? So, perhaps it will never happen neutral

Oh please, like he's the end all authority on remastering Prince albums. We all know they could benefit from being cleaned up, remastered, and worked on.

Not if the levels on the original master tapes are fucked! Who the hell made you an authority on remastering?

Don't get all panty wadded on me. You're not Chronic Freeze, so don't get all riled up because someone talks against him. My point stands about him. I'm not an authority, but since when is he one? Has he ever overseen a major remastering project from a major artist like Prince? Has he had his hands on all the master tapes from Prince's first dozen albums? Has he seen where the red line comes in on every single album track, b-side, remix, extended mix, etc? Has he compared it to other people's music, and knows how bad/good Prince's masters are? I doubt it. I remember him remixing a few songs here and there, but big deal. Technology lets a lot of us do that these days, if we're creative enough.

Him saying the levels are "fucked" is his twocents, and no one else's. Even Prince himself was once asked why his older catalog wasn't remastered, and he said, "Yeah, I wonder that myself. Why isn't someone working on that???"

So if Prince doesn't really know why someone at WB isn't doing it, how the fuck is Chronic Freeze to offer up anything new?

You know whose word I'd take over him? Coke Johnson. Susan Rogers. David Leonard, Ricky Peterson, Keith "KC" Cohen, Brian Gardner. Don Batts. Michael Koppelman, David Tickle, David Z., Ric Wilson. Those are the kind of folks I'd rather hear from about remastering options, ideas, and thoughts.

I'm hardly riled Ernest. And your patronising won't work on me, so don't bother!

If you'd paid more attention to Chronic, you would know that actually he had to do a lot of work on the original masters for archiving - extensive, painstaking work, where he would have seen every level from every track in order to complete the job. He wouldn't need to compare it to other people's work - a sound engineer uses what is in front of him and his ears!! That kinda comment shows just what an ignorant standpoint you are coming from!

And Prince might not be the best person to ask about remastering either! Most engineers have remarked on how "lo-tech" he is and Chronic even said that it was Prince that was responsible for all the levels being so shot in the first place! Prince liked to record everything to the limit and may have been due to a lack of engineering knowledge - that, unfortunately, impedes any future remastering. So, there may be some sonic benefit, but not necessarily enough to warrant the expense and effort required.

But, you know what? I'd certainly take Chronic Freeze's word over your summise! wink An engineer that worked with Prince for almost a decade against the word of someone who has never remastered anyone professionally!

Leave the music the way we originally enjoyed it.

If I was meant to hear every single sound in the studio including the vending machines electrical hum then I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

So hopefully the Book of Revaelations comes around first.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
