This song starts "The sun set in the west this morning/For I know I know LA is callin'/ Bad news still stays? when people are talking/They say your kingdom is falling" That's Old Friends 4 Sale. I have that oooollllddd-ass copy of the Black Album too. Yep,i remember buying that version of the Black album with its little yellow sticker on many moons ago. It was one of my first boots and i treated it like a prized possession. I was so proud to own it lol. Back in the day when vinyl boots were easy to find.

I don't know anything about Prince doing Fight the Power...can't even imagine what that sounds like.
I'm not mad into the boots and things so I don't know what's out there but I'd like some high quality versions of The Line and Purple Music, just so I can turn them up even louder. And Extra Loveable, too. That's one of my all time favourite, anything-by-anyone songs.

There are at least 20 different factory pressed bootlegs of The Black Album. I have a cassette bootleg of the The Black Album, a vinyl bootleg and at least 3 silver CD boots of it. The vinyl has that famous matte black head shot on a gloss black background. One CD is from the label Noir 69 and includes a large sticker with a Paisley logo and the words "The Black Album" on it. It has the same tracks as the legit version. I also have one with this set of songs - maybe this is what you have: Le Grind Cindy C Dead On It When 2 R In Love Bob George Superfunkycalifragisexy 2 Nigs United For West Compton Rockhard In A Funky Place In All My Dreams Old Friends For Sale Another version I have is called The Black Album And Back Sides (Ghost Records) which features the tracks as follows: Le Grind Cindy C Dead On It When 2 R In Love Bob George Superfunkycalifragisexy 2 Nigs United For West Compton Rockhard In A Funky Place In All My Dreams Old Friends For Sale Horny Toad, Erotic City Irresistible Bitch If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

all those would be interesting indeed...BTW a song called The Divine was originally recorded during the Emancipation sessions ie over 13 years ago....I wonder if the version he mentioned in the Lotus Flower interviews is the same, reworked, or something completely different... I'd like to see Prince seriously look at what he's doing - stop looking at his bank account and really really look at what he wants to do with his music....the Lotus Flower set is IMHO great - but the site is an absolute disappointment..$77 for that? So instead of making promises and ripping us off - either put up - or shut up!! Oh - I wish he'd release the original version of Old Friends For Sale - the Vault version is a poor imitation....and how about giving us Moonbeam levels with 'There's Others Here With Us' as a b-side seriously though, eventually he'll release those tracks in some form or another (which in itself is scary - cos Moonbeam Levels is perfect the way it is, just as In a Large Room with No Light was)...but I really just wish he'd give us something from his heart..,.his soul...something honest...not what he thinks we'll like...but something he thinks maybe we aren't ready for...he might be surprised!! He challenged me years ago with his sound/style...I'd like him to challenge me again..I'm not a kid anymore - and neither is he...so bring it on!! [Edited 12/4/09 1:45am]

I haven't heard anything substantial about a Prince version of Like A Prayer, but it would be interesting if it existed. I worked at Electric Lady Studios at the time Like a Prayer was recorded (although the original tracks were recorded elsewhere). On the single Madonna released the song opens with that rockish guitar track but a version was mixed at EL that began with When Doves Cry - producer was a young guy named Hank (don't remember his last name). If that is the "Prince version" that is the only Prince thing about that particular mix. I was working the night it was mixed and they left the control room door open (studio C). I must have heard the song 1000x and every time I thought I was about to hear WDC.

I guess there's a 12" of Madonna's Like A Prayer with more Prince on it - probably a mix of the recording you mentioned. Also, I just realized that Prince has recorded his own version of Like A Prayer, but it's not circulating. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Most noteable cases are the full version of Cosmic Day, the Ona soundcheck in Antwerp and a bunch of outtakes listed in the Uptown magazines that no-one outside of these circles has ever heard (of).
