Rock and Roll Hall of Fame DVD release Sorry, if this is already posted, did a search, couldn't find anything...
This Tuesday they are finally releasing a DVD box set of Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame performances. It is available as a 3DVD set or a limited 9DVD set. Disc 1 of both sets, subtitled 'Light My Fire', contains the performance of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' that featured Prince blowing all the other guitar players away!! Here's a link to the TimeLife page: http://www.timelife.com/w...tId=132006 There's also a Parliament Funkadelic performance, but it's only on the 9 disc set... but, oh well, Prince is on both!! I just picked it up at BestBuy, on the back of the box it says this: "An all-star tribute to George Harrison with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and Jeff Lynne performing 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', culminating in an electrifying guitar solo by Prince." Watching disc 1 now... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I hope they have put on the real live version, not the one on the repeat boradcasts where they turned down Prince's solo towards the end conclusion.... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Is his full performance from his induction on the disc or just the WMGGW solo?

Aside from the year Prince played, any other performances that stand out? "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham

You know what, I never knew they did that, I only watched (and thankfully recorded) the original broadcast. But, when I was watching it before work today, I thought his guitar wasn't as loud in the mix as I remembered. I even kept switching between 5.1 & 2.0 and still thought this. I assumed my memory was wrong, but before I left for work I pulled out my copy of the orig. broadcast to compare the two. I'll do that tonight and report back. If his guitar is lower than the original mix... WHY the FUK would they do such a stupid thing?!? Shenanigans!! Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

The Prince performance of his own tracks is not included, nor is his induction. The allstar jam on WMGGW is complete... although maybe altered as mentioned in above posts... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

Aside from the year Prince played, any other performances that stand out? I've always like The Doors feat. Eddie Vedder performance, but this set only has 'Light My Fire', 'Roadhouse Blues' is only on the 9 disc set, and that track was way better than LMF... I really didn't get to watch enough to give more of an opinion. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I just watched the original broadcast back to back with today's release. In my opinion Prince's guitar was louder in the mix for the original broadcast than it is on the DVD. And if that's correct, it makes no since at all. Was the show even broadcast live? I don't remember for sure, but I think the broadcast is always several days after the ceremony, providing plenty of time to get the mix they want... why change it after the fact?!?
Maybe I'm imagining things... any other opinions? Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

At this time, late at night, with a lot of material to go through, I'm mostly just skipping around, watching a few that I'm most interested in.
With that in mind, watching disc 2, I pull up the all star jam tribute to the Jimi Hendrix Experience from 1992. It's 'All Along The Watchtower' (ironic, a Dylan track, yes, Hendrix did it better, but still...) performed by Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, Neil Young, Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Johnny Cash, The Edge, and manyMANYmany others.... What an incoherent mess, too many players on stage at once, even Paul Schaffer (the "conductor") couldn't hold it together. Often the lead vocals (done by Neil Young) are too low in the mix to be heard.... Wow! It's so cool to see all this talent together, but there really can be too much of a good thing. as the reviews in the links above suggest, there doesn't seem to be any logical reason or rhyme to the selections or to the order in which they are presented. That said, there's a ton of great material here for anyone interested in the history of rock and roll or in the artists presented. I just wish I could have afforded the complete 9DVD set available online.... maybe one day one other thing, I expected a 3DVD set but I got a 4DVD set! BestBuy has an exclusive bonus disc: The Concert For The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I don't know what that's all about, will check it out tomorrow, but it features: John Mellencamp, Eric Burdon, Bon Jovi, Aretha Franklin, Lou Reed, Soul Asylum, The Allman Brothers Band, Sheryl Crow, The Kinks, Ann & Nancy Wilson, John Fogerty, Booker T. & The MG's, James Brown & Al Green.... Nice bonus considering I wasn't even paying attention to that when I bought it. (Heh, didn't notice the very noticeable "Exclusive Bonus DVD...Only At Best Buy" sticker on the front) Just looked it up, the BestBuy bonus disc is the same as disc 9 of of the 9DVD set [Edited 11/3/09 22:41pm] Don't hate your neighbors. I would say yes, I got my money's worth. Considering I paid $24.99 for 4DVDs, it was definitely worth the buy! The 3DVD set for the retail price of $39.99? I don't know, it depends on how many artists on the set you like. If you want it I would definitely try to get it this week at BestBuy with their loss leader price and the bonus 4th disc. I really want the 9DVD set for the Parliament/Funkadelic performance, but $119.99 plus shipping is STEEP! And no, it does not have the Plant/Page/Young jam, at least not on these 4 discs, you'd have to check the tracklist of the other 5 to be sure... Don't hate your neighbors. On disc 3 of the set, 'Start Me Up', the bonus features have 'Backstage 2004'. You get to see right after the WMGGW performance, Dhani Harrison (George's son), is looking for Prince, so he can "give that guy a big hug". He's very hyped! You also see one of the guys from ZZ Top, Billy Gibbons, I think, talking to Prince... Not much, but pretty cool stuff. Don't hate your neighbors. After watching this 4 disc set. Besides the mix issue and the random placement of performances. I enjoyed it very much. Besides the awesome Prince performance, I really enjoyed Bruce Springsteen duets/back ups on all his appearances. Loved Ann and Nancy Wilson's "Battle of Evermore.(Just Love Ann's voice).
Although, did anyone else notice the white dude behind James Brown? Not only did he look like he is 16 years old, but he has this band geek quality that certainly makes you think-hmmm what doesn't belong in this picture?
