Prophetic or Puerile?

Track one on Prince's first album is For You.

All of this and more is 4 U
With love, sincerity and deepest care
My life with U I share

Thinking of his music over the last 31 years, do you think this has come true? Has he shared his life with the listener and done so with "love, sincerity and deepest care"?

Or has he really revealed nothing, been insincere and shown disregard for the music he has shared?

Please note, I'm not focusing on his business decisions, his personal interactions and such. I'm really looking at this from an artistic view. When it comes to his music, does his catalog prove these lyrics a prophecy of how he has conducted himself as a musician?

Or not?

In a spiritual sense...If "For You." was someone that has listened to every official word Prince has sang with sincerity...I would say "Yes."

I have listened. and I do Love Prince. And it is not on a physical level.

A Fisherman throws a line into a pond...Prince hooked me. It is definitely a great psychology discussion. cool

So would you say that he has at some points in his career and not others? If so, examples?

Thanks. But I guess I'm more looking for your thoughts on if he has remained true to his art, not so much the impact he has had on you.

I think when he wrote those words he was young and naive and, seen in those terms, and with hindsight, they seem idealistic and 'puerile' or, perhaps, typically adolescent. (I mean 'puerile' literally, and without any disparaging connotation). It doesn't mean the words weren't sincerely intended.

Identifying examples in his career where he might have appeared to have been less than sincere, for example, would simply be taking the first official lyric from a young man and using it as a yardstick to measure the rest of his public life. It was a grandiose love lyric rather than Prince swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth for the rest of his career.
