HOT THING is one of the best POP SONGS of the 80s!

Oh dear lawd.

This song defies adequate descriptions. I've seen it referenced in many music reviews of Sign of the Times, but none of them adequately describe the song. Moreover, I'm certainly not going to bother trying to describe the song adequately as it can't be done.

But suffice it to say, I love this tune! music

Slightly danceable, slightly romplicious, and very delicious, Prince creates something fresh from seemingly autonomous genres. It's everything the SOTT era Prince was, and then some.

It's a timeless song, not easily placed in the 80's fold, even with the horn section sounding slightly "DMSR" and "Su-Su-Sussudio", but it still skirts adequate desription in that regard.

It's a sexy song. A wild song. A wonderful song. It's everything I love about the late 80's Prince..... nasty, experimental, and FUNNNNNKKKKAAAY.

Hot thing, yall. HOT. MUTHAFUCKIN THING! headbang

I hate to admit that when I first purchased SOTT, I spent those first few months just tolerating "Hot Thang," waiting for "Forever in My Life." Although I thought it was okay, "Hot Thang" was the only song on the album that I didn't love. It was not until I saw the film that I began to appreciate "Hot Thang" as a well done groove.

I love the song too, but it's nowhere near one of the best pop songs of the 80's.

This is my favorite all time Prince song.

When I got SOTT in March of 87 I barely listened to it until in late Spring I went on a date and the girl put her SOTT in the tape deck.

Hot Thing Barely 21.

I love the groove on this track. He rarely makes good grooves these days, but Ol scool company and Dance 4 me are pretty good funk tracks.

It's a very good song and very funky! I don't think it's one the best songs of the 80s, there are several songs on SOTT that are better candidates, like the title track, Forever In My Life and Adore but Hot Thing is definitely a very rememberable song.

I remember they played Hot Thing on the radio before SOTT was released and I could tell in the first 5 seconds that it was a Prince song...that's when he had such a distinct and powerful sound

Got the feeling that Kevin Smith brigade is coming to comment really soon.

Love the song.

I remember that "Hot Thing," took a minute to grow on me...but I did grow to like it more and more over the years..."Tambourine," gave me that same uncertain vibe at first...Love them both now...for what they are. cool

A stone cold classic in my opinion. Funky, heavy, and fun! One of my favorites from the SOTT album.

The 12 inch is bumpin. I tend to like the hot thing version that came out on film a lot better.

No, there were far better pop songs during the 80s. New Romantics, New Wave... all good.

such a great jam!!

i always thought that this song (and other strong tracks from SOTT) didn't get enough attention because the more obviously "inventive" songs like if i was your girlfriend, dorothy parker, etc got the attention right off the bat.

songs like it (my personal overlooked SOTT track) really stand out, especially after repeated listenings.

and oh my, how FUNKY
