[Edited 11/23/09 4:03am] . i never said they weren't....which makes it even more surprising now that prince is in his 50's.... . and remember bon jovi still get widespread radio play and hit singles....prince ain't getting neither... I've said before and I'll say it again.
Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, and Lotusflow3r are commercial successes. Sure, not like his 80's material sold, but still nothing that I would consider 'failures' commercially. Prince's problem is lack of heavy rotation....sales-wise, he's doing pretty well.

Prince dropped off quite quickly after a couple of weeks, wonder if BJ will do the same? RIP

I think another reason for smaller sales these days is that there are more artists trying to make it and each one has a smaller window of exposure. There are more artists competing for the limelight and music listeners have a shorter attention span. Prince made a really big name for himself in the 80s and early 90s which has helped him to the present. He's a legend. His music after the early 90s has been slightly uneven but definitely good enough to still sell a lot of albums.

I know all the ones for sale the other week had been sold out when I looked. Hadn't looked recently to see how many dates they'd extended to. RIP

i believe there are only 10 shows listed on the 02 site.
If they can break 21 nites i'd be very impressed. But i doubt they will. More power to them! Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Time will tell. (given the pricing though and the fact everyone's feeling the pinch, they'll do well just to sell out the 10 dates listed!) the reason prince outsold bon jovi is simple
once you have one bon jovi album, you don't need another one. you get the one with living on a prayer and like a virgin and you know what all the other songs sound like with prince, you have to buy the cd as otherwise you have no idea wtf kinda fucking album he's made. it could be an album of gregorian chants, a pan flute jazz odyssey or a concept album about scientology. you get 3 cds for $12.95 or something, so you can use them as coasters if you don't like the music, and it'll save you a trip to ikea. the americans hate foreign shit so would get confused as fuck with all the stupid fucking names they call everything, so it's easier just to buy a few prince cd's instead of asking for an AAAARRRRRDVAAARKKK at ikea
