Now (TGE)

I'll admit, I lapsed in 1992. From Controversy through prince I did not miss an album. Came back with Musicology. I've been listening to The Gold Experience and am wondering about the song Now. Does that song seem as insane to you as it does to me? It sounds like Prince is having a fit or a seizure at the end. Plus, personifying himself as a joint is strange too. I

I remember listening to that song for the first time when the CD came out and being quite surprised at Prince's pothead surfer imitation and the line "Light up another one, dude!" I remember immediately back-tracking to that part of the song to listen to it again a few times before I let the rest of the song play.

At first I thought the song was mediocre. Now I loathe it with a white-hot intensity. That shrill, obnoxious screaming he does in there is just painful to listen to.

I 1st heard Now when he was doing it live at P Park along with Days Of Wild, before TGE came out. This is definitely a song that shoulda stayed live and away from a studio recording. I hope he never officially releases the studio Days Of Wild.

I think the screaming fits very well, it symbolizes how people are that want everything now.

I think it's one of the weaker songs on the album, but it's still a cool, funky jam. Funny, cos it's one of my friends favourite tracks on the whole album. Different strokes.

This song is shockingly bad. One of the worst songs that Prince has ever penned. The music and lyrics are corny and fitting of a very bad comedy show. Rubbish.

Great track - funny, funky and loads of energy smile Great studio work - the layering and instrumentation towards the end is great, with grinding, power chords on the electric guitar, then a clean, plucked funky riff (prob on the tele) and various samples syncopated with a wonderful bass and rhythm section.....I love tracks like this from him.....an expert at placing motifs in a song.

Now is my favorite song on the Gold Experience. He's just blowing off some steam. When I want to do it, that's the some I play.

Now is terrible. The gold experience is saved by the slower tunes, the funk on this album is not very good. And to me; a good Prince album contains several good and funky tunes. He is "home" when he is funky and playful.

that live version was bad ass! especially the extended portion with that
organ loop and the 'now/come on' chant.

loved it particularly when he started jamming on his guitar over that
part and leading it into "babies makin' babies".

urgh. such a good performance. such a magical time.

This is exactly how I feel, though I heard TGE version first. I dug it, and when I heard the live version it just blew my mind. So much more energy. IMO the whole "Now 2 3 4 come on come on freaks on the floor" makes the song. cool

I always laugh when i hear him scream on the album-version, it sounds so shrill and 'acted'.

I prefer the scream on the live-version.

Or even better, I prefer Days of Wild (Hold on to your wigs!) over this song.

The Gold Experience is a strong album, but I always consider Now one of the weaker tracks, I think the somewhat similar Days of Wild would have been better on that place on the album. Its its a bit starker and harder.

The best from that era: 27th August 1995, an amazing version of "Days Of Wild" segues into "In Time" (Sly & The Family Stone).

It was alright, I love the one in Endorphinmachine better, but he really was trying to sound hard in that song (NOW) it was obvious he trying to show his street cred there. Like I said not bad, but avoid if you have a migraine. lol
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time
