That Wembley stadium gig was fantastic (even though, as a rule, I don't like stadium gigs), but the crowd crush at the beginning is not something I'd like to go through again. When P came on stage, my and my girlfriend were carried forward almost 50 feet with no way of stopping ourselves. Ok, we got a lot closer (!!!) but it was quite un-nerving at the time!

Anyways, did anyone else see the amazing shooting star that streaked overhead just before the end of the concert, but pre-encore? - the timing was just perfect, an ethereal, Princely moment!

Joefantastic - Prince has played loads of stadiums over the years and, as somebody said earlier, he only ever used to play stadiums and large arenas. In fact, 1998 was the first time I got to see a Prince concert (not an aftershow!) in a small venue (Brixton Academy, London, UK - capacity around 3,000!) and it was a world of difference. And, boy, did he used to sell them out - there were various records for "fastest selling" and "most consecutive nights played" that Prince once held. It has only been in recent years that Prince has scaled down the size of venues, and I, for one, am happy that he has done so - you feel much more a part of the event!

I know he has played big indoor arenas, but the outdoor stadium appearances weren't in my knowledge.

Batdance

The biggest venue where I saw Prince was a couple years ago. The venue had 18,000 seats. It was an outdoor amphitheater, one of those places where the stage and first few rows have a roof over it, but the rest of the seats and lawn seating are in the open.

It was close to a sold-out show, with the only seats available being the $19.99 sit-on-the-lawn seats. I was in the 4th row and it was awesome to turn over and see thousands of people behind me smile

But to be honest, the show in that huge venue wasn't that great. Prince was having sound system problems throughout the tour and the sound in this venue was terrible. I saw Prince a couple years later in a 2,500 seat venue and the show was great.

Ive been to Football Stadium concerts (in the UK) during the 1990's at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Wembley and Manchester's Maine Road.

Had 'pitch seating' at Maine Road and ended up on the second row..! The image of Prince sitting at the Piano right in front singing 'The question of U' is one that will remain forever, wow !

Yeah that was a cool gig and aftershow. At Wembley Stadium we were on the pitch but halfway back on the second barrier. So we approached a steward and asked how u get in the section right at the front. (There was an area seperated right at the front below the stage that could hold a couple of hundred people.) The steward told us if we gave him £10 he could get us the passes.

I gave him £10 and he disapeared. We waited by the side of the pitch having lost our places. We were prepared to just accept our mistake and disappear to the back of the stadium. Just as we walked away he appeared with 4 wristbands and ushered us thru 2 the front enclosure. WOW! Wembley Stadium, thousands and thousands of people and he we are literally leaning on the front barrier at the very front of the stadium!

Glad you had a good time, but that steward scammed the £10.

I went to that concert, & I had priority seating with Controversy, but when we took our seats I didn't like the view and decided to try and get into the enclosure directly in front of the stage. So I ran down to the front and got in, they just gave me a wristband (for re-admittance purposes). You didn't need to pay any extra, it was just a first come first served basis. The first so-many people were allowed in, then no more. The barrier was just there to break up the crowd to prevent crushing.

That was a great summer. U2's Zoo TV show, Madonna's Girlie Show & Prince's Act II show all played Wembley Stadium within a few weeks of each other. All 3 shows had similar front enclosure arrangements, so as long as you got in early, and ran to the front, you could get in (which I did for all 3, and had a great time).

I went to the Wembley Stadium gig. Got my tix from Eileen from the good 'ole Controversy fan club. We didn't realise 'til we got there that even though we had "Priority Booking", we had really bad seats to the right of the stage, couldn't see half of what was going on. Also, the sounds was really bad.

Just before the gig started, Eileen came round with what looked like bookmarks, but turned out to be tickets for an aftershow at The Forum in Kentish Town. Left the show early (before the encore) and made my way up there. Was about fourth in line, and got right to the front of the stage and witnessed my all-time favourite aftershow experience. I could literally touch his feet where I was standing, but decided against it as the heels would have caused some major damage if I'd have tried I'm sure smile. The one thing I remember was a girl standing next to me at the aftershow with hair which could best be described as "frizzy". She'd been placed there by Prince's management about 5 minutes before the show started. I had a bit of a stubble thing going on at the time, so every time either of us turned round, her hair kept getting caught in my stubble! She tried glaring at me once but I gave her some South London phrases and she backed off. At the end of the gig, Prince's management said he wanted to "meet her", so she got pulled up on stage and was taken round the back (unintentional inuendo there guys, honest!).

Another thing I remember this night for was the next day finding out that Controversy was closing. That was the night Eileen had been "used" by Prince's management for their own gain and she'd decided enough was enough.

pity me...i had tickets through controversy - found the seats, thought they were shite and left to try my luck on the pitch...missed out on those precious aftershow tickets probably by minutes!!! curses!

That's really sad, it was such an excellent aftershow! Anyway, a fan I knew thought they were bookmarks and missed out!
