Sign ☮' The Times(song) This song is fucking amazing.
I really listen to it for the first time this morning while walking to school,I just love the intro. Is there a longer version? Was this song all over the radio?

It was a single that seemed really serious in comparison to other things on the radio like "La Isla bonita" or "Venus"... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I do not think it was a hit. The video is... I think it is just words on a screen. Like Ufoclub said it was a bit too serious for radio. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

The live in Paris version with the insane distorted guitar intro and funky bass is my favorite version |

The song was a hit on pop and r&b charts... and all over black and R&B radio for sure... if it had a video probably would have been even bigger
Love that song.. I remember how much fun we had trying to figure out if the person holding that heart was Prince or not. The cover art of the single was typical provocative Prince Clearly he felt the song serious enough that a video and/or remix was unecessary. Its his journey ya'll I alos really loved the font.... man its almost as funky as the song [Edited 11/20/09 17:55pm] Dance... Let me see you dance

Yeah - got to No 8 in the UK and I remember it being all over radio here.
IIWYG, the second single, stalled in the US at no 67 (got to 20 in the UK), whereas U Got the Look fared much better in the US, peaking at no 2! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

"did you see that cool new prince video?" It was huge in europe. "My God it's full of Stars"

The song was massive and quite mind-blowing.
The vid also had impact - quite daring, actually, if you think about it. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

I still remember the first time I heard the song. I had just seen "Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors" and we were on the way home and the song came on the radio. My friend was like"That's the new Prince song" and I was like "no way" because I didn't think it sounded like Prince at all. I considered myself the biggest Prince fan in the world at the time and my friend had heard the new song first. It pissed me off.
Anyhoo, the song was a hit and as I recall the video never actually was played at the time because P. didn't want to do a video for a song. My recollection, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that he was pissed at MTV for not playing a Jill Jones video for "Mia Boca" and decided he wasn't going to do the video. WB must have made the thing with the words but I don't remember it getting airplay. I think the song still has weight and sounds almost timeless. At the time it was shocking, a song that mentioned crack, heroin, and AIDS. So far ahead of its time it was like a punch to the gut everytime you heard it. Still pound for pound one of his best moments on wax. All good things they say never last...
