Has Prince ever played Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" in concert?

Being such a sick guitar player and P-Funk fan I'd have to assume he's done that one at least once.

Apparently not.

I thought this piece would have influenced Prince to jam it in public but quite sure it hasn't been done. Nothing can beat the soulful original.

In my mind i'd be in the audience at a concert and prince would ask "what d'ya wanna hear?" i'd shout "maggot brain" and he'd nod to the drummer/bass to start that slow rhythm intro, building up to the shrill guitar tones of eddie hazel (channelled through prince).

oh well, it's a fantasy.

Yeah that's true now that I think of it. I've only heard of him doing "One Nation Under a Groove" and the bass line to "Flash Light" when he played with George at the Rave Un2 show.

Then you would be OK with The Feederz song "Jesus Entering From The Rear"?

It's classic, you should take a listen!

I love the quirky intro.

Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time
For y'all have knocked her up.
I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe
I was not offended
For I knew I had to rise above it all
Or drown in my own shit.

Eddie's guitar playing is super powerful, very emotional to hear!

According to Blackbyrd P has been invited (many times) by George to join them onstage to jam on "MB". P always says he'll do it and then backs out at the last minute.

I read that on the "New Funk Times" site a few years ago (in a Byrd interview).

I've never heard Prince performed Maggot Brain, but I definitely think that Purple Rain was influenced by it.

Especially since when he performed it on The Purple Rain Tour. He wore a hood on his head just like Michael Hampton did when he performed Maggot Brain.
