why is prince? why is prince so reluctant to truly collaborate with people with talent such as eric leeds, ani difranco, gwen steffani, questlove, miles davis, but then he gives some of his best material to be sung strait up by hacks like vanity and carmen electra ... u cant even here ani or gwen on that rave cd and that shelby j girl just does not do it for me but she is all over every live show?????

miles davis is dead, so he probably wants someone that can play a little better with the rest of them, they are successful in thier own right and don't need prince and probably want to do thier own thing instead. there is also the legal position of contracts that restrict who they can release work with, and the scheduling restrictions of those artists too. having a studio in mpls away from the main muso hangouts of nyc and la makes that even harder with the lesser known people they have less ties so it's easier to work with them. no schedule problems, no recording contracts, and being prince it's a good step on the ladder for them also the speed and the way prince works, it's easier for him to do stuff himself, or call on his list of regular collaborators to find those that can drop things at a hat and get to paisley. the acts you mention can't do that

Because the untalented people look much sexier. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Quite! Trevor - I'm surprised, really! You're a musician yourself and yet all I've seen from recent posts of yours is negativity towards Prince for all sorts - for his lyrics and now collaborations with other artists! I'd expect there to be a little more respect really and you should consider the old saying about "people in glass houses"! (yes, I've had a listen!) You can't hear Ani on ILUBDTUA?! Well, her guitar seems clear as a bell to me! You can't hear Gwen on SFSP?! Perhaps you need a new stereo, or some cotton buds for your ears! My feeling is the collaborations work just fine - those guest artists do not have to be in your face, or overly highlighted. The perfect example is Kate Bush on My computer - wonderfully understated, but with all the haunting, ethereal quality that Kate is known for herself. Her backing vocals are brought up in the mix as the song progresses and just adds a lovely texture. Quit bitchin' for bitchin's sake and, may I suggest, you focus on polishing up your own works before denigrating others [Edited 11/21/09 10:53am] ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

hey dude thanks for listening ... i try the best i can and get a little more polished each time but yo... i love prince and enjoy talking about him both positive and negative so bite me really, and what i am getting at in this thread is well ... lots of people speculate into princes mind on this site and i was curious why maybe he'll have a mediocre singer all over something like the family ... which is just a beautiful album but when given the opportunity to work with say a gwen stefanni voice its like barely there or sheryll crow who gets relegated to a harmonica and ani difranco who can write and play guitar brilliantly where here is an opportunity to really show off a great talent on something prince related or written and they get buried where as a paul whatever his name is from the family gets a whole album that prince could have sang a million times better ... anyway it just doesnt make sense to me and was wondering if anyone else had had any insight ... im not ragging on the dude shit damn chill and thanks again for listening
