Love this song and the whole SLAVE era from 93 to 95. A lot of great songs came out during this time. Hide the Bone,Acknowledge me,the reworking of Empty room,etc.

I've been listening to the Come album for the last three weeks in my car and this is one of my favorites. If Prince made a video that actually went along with the lyrics would have been killer. There is a video with Mayte and the NPG dancers but it so tame as to what the lyrics suggest!

its funny how this album is portrayed as somehow worse than the gold experience as tho he withheld the gold songs because they were better but i actually dig a lot of this stuff much more than gold ... all that glitters as they say ... but papa, dark, let it go, even solo thats a good run and come and pheremone were both some tight grooves and horns ... plus it had that dark gloomy cover and it was called come ... prince was brilliant in how completely obtuse he could be toward giving wb a sellable product ... he wasnt going out of his way to make that one pretty was he? ... i dig his mustache at this time too somehow it works a little better than his gold stache ... its totally badass and prince at his face hair rebellion finest ... slave coming in second ... back on point YES pheremone love!!! awesome dance tune tooo

PHEROMONE reduces sex down to its primal elements. With a driving beat that seems to increase the tension with each passing wham of the snare we get a voyeuristic view of the kinkier side of lust. Whereas the lyrics on first read might have others almost screaming the lyrics, Prince’s vocal delivery is almost from the scene and thus lower in level as if not wanting to be sprung spying. While intriguing the song seems to lack dare I say it a climax and thus feels unsatisfying.

Come is a very good album and Pheromone is a very good song, I just wish Solo and especially Loose hadn't been on it.

At the time I didn't like Come and then later Chaos and Disorder - I thought they were both simply attempts to sabotage WB. But all of these years later, I think they are both outstanding. And pheromone is one of the standout tracks. I never did see the video, though.

Whether you interpret the lyrics as questionable, sexy or intense really depends on your style. The song gives you a taste of how powerful Pheromones are and what they can do to you.
