isn't this a newbie fans thing versus oldie fans ???

been there since 1983, I sometimes gets a little tired of Prince's new music, it doesn't live up to his old 1978 to 1995,

I guess those who needs a break from Prince are in my situation, they are old fans who just needs a break.

Prince albums 1996 to 2009 haven't been that great, but I guess newbiee fans who likes 3121, Musicology and Planet Earth don't understand that.

NO
I've been a fan since 1979. I don't get tired of Prince. Even on shuffle I expect to hear Prince. Doesn't bother me. If I spend the whole day listening to Prince, doesn't mean I won't do the same tomorrow.

He is definitely not "everything in one" though his diversity is commendable. Eventually you need to take a break from Prince.

To me he is everything in one, when I wanna dance hes right here, when I wanna play air guitar hes right here, when I wanna hear something very political hes right here. But thats my opinion.

I miss being young and being in the first 6 months of my Prince addiction. I guess that's why continue to shoot up year-in, year-out, album after album, tour after tour, website after website. Still looking to recapture that initial high, I guess.

Thanks Jarvius for continually reminding me of what that was like.

I occasionally get to the point in which I feel like I have heard every Prince song multiple times over a short period. When this happens, I usually take a break.

When you're a new fan and you're listening to his stuff nonstop, that feeling of "I'll never get tired" is strong.....then you do.... lol

It's the same for any person when they discover a great artist. It was that way for me with Prince, George Michael, and The Style Council

A fan since 1979. Still not tired. If I just want to hear music and don't know what I want to hear- I'll listen to Prince until I decide.

Well, in my case, I haven't really listened to Prince since I stopped in the mid 1990s, so now I've come back to him and every thing sounds fresh and new--esp. the stuff I never heard before off the Crystal Ball set and One Nite Alone Live; in my opinion, some of the tracks off those two sets are some of the best music I've ever heard from him... I just played "The Truth" for my best friend who hasn't listened to Prince in about 20 years and she was blown away by the delta-blues sound and wants me to burn it for her! So, maybe if you started listening to Prince in the 70s, 80s, and 90s and never went away, you might get jaded... I can't speak for them; all I know is that I started tuning in again after being away for a long time and I like what I'm hearing...and that includes some of the songs on his new album Lotusflower! biggrin

Hey first post after a month or so of lurking..

I became a huge Prince fan literally overnight about 2-3 months ago. I'd had Purple Rain for a few years, liked it passsingly, but expressed not an ounce more interest in him. A friend gave me Controversy with a bunch of others, and I listened to it once, and was from then on obsessed by him, and getting all his albums. I didn't even think Controversy was THAT great, and I've definitely listened to it least of his albums I've got since (virtually all of them I think, except B-side collectons and other similar things).

I've now got all the studio albums as I say, and haven't got tired of him. Can just put him on shuffle and experience all this great new music (cause there's so much to take in at once!) over and over. On my last.fm charts, he's shot up unbbelievably far, into my top played artists (some of whom I've loved for years!)

Sure it's newfan-itis, but it's great!

Wish I'd been a fan in 07 so I could have seen him at the 02 arena, a friend at art school said he saw him twice and I'm really jealous. :p

Interesting ...

I've been listening to P's music almost everyday since November 1996 and I find myself listening to some of everything he's done, including the related artist music that he's produced. I just do not see myself giving his music up.

The only way I can stop listening to Prince is if Queen recorded a song better than Adore(they almost did with "One Year Of Love").

The big advantage with Prince is that he's so prolific so when I get tired of some parts of his music there are always other parts that have laid untouched for a while. Add to that his effortless exploration of different genres, and mixing of genres. Prince's music is like a universe of its own. It's very hard to get tired of Prince and when I do it's only for a very short time.
