Has P ever considered doing this? Last night Bruce Springsteen was in Baltimore and he rocked the arena. At one point in the show, he did the entire Thunder Road album from start to finish. He started by saying something like "this is the record that started conversation between me and you".
Do you think P would ever rip straight through an album or two during a show? Has he ever done that? If he has I wouldnt be surprised but I just wondered. Its reminiscent of Lovesexy.

I have tried looking it up, but I forget what the thread was called. I know that Emancipation, SOTT, and NIN's The Downward Spiral were talked about in the thread.

Steely Dan just did something similar, where they set up camp at a theater here in NYC and played a different album, completely through, each night.
I'd love if Prince did that, although with him, I feel like so many of his albums work best when paired with another, usually the one that came before or after it (e.g., Dirty Mind/Controversy and Musicology/3121). So I'd like if he did two full albums.

Bruce Springsteen is getting senile. He was onstage in one city and kept calling out another, his fans and bandmates were embarrassed for him. I don't want Prince anywhere near him!

Prince did exactly the same thing several years ago. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

That's just an honest mistake...He said Ohio instead of Michigan...Oh Well... I was Ohio bound from Chicago on the freeway one time just listening to music and before U know it I saw a sign that said "Welcome to Michigan." Neighboring states. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Prince did exactly the same thing several years ago. Every artist has done it. Does no one remember Jesse Johnson on American Bandstand? Just after they finished the song, and Dick Clark was walking up...Jesse leaned into one of his band members and said something. Dick asked him what he said, and he admitted that he didn't know what city he was in. (But that's a dumb error since AB was done in Philadelphia, and that is common knowledge.) But every artist in the world has incorrectly called out a city. It's called being human.

Prince is guilty of doing this at least twice in the past few years. "Thank you Las Vegas" (in Miami 2007), and "Thank you Vegas" (in San Francisco 2007). Your man lost his mind years ago.

The last time I can recall Prince coming close to playing an album straight through was the Purple Rain Tour. He did play all of the tracks in order but he had other material in between songs. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

First, that's not playing an album all the way through. They mean literally playing the album in track order, and nothing else but. Also "the Beautiful Ones" was played after "Computer Blue" and "Darling Nikki", which is out of sequence on the record. A better example is the early rehearsal of SOTT. When you find those boots of the early rehearsals, he had damn near laid out the first disk in straight track order as the CD. It was later on that he started to add old stuff in, totally changing the set list for the tour.

A performance in straight track order for planet earth would be awesome.

The thing for me is that I dont want him to do 1999 etc with the band he has now. I want whatever record he chose to do be with the band of that era he did it with. Be it Controversy or 3121 etc.
As an aside this "classic albums" band covered one of his last year I believe. They do one famed album a month such as Thriller, The Wall.....

Still not the same as intended in this thread. Prince has most often played all the songs from a new album. He played all the songs from PR on that tour, and touched most of the songs from Parade on the Hit N' Run, and did a good amount of the SOTT material on that tour. He played all the songs, sans "Positivity", on the Lovesexy tour. Remember, a tour is meant to promote an album most times, so of course the artist is most likely to play most all the songs from their current CD. That's not playing it straight through though. The intent of the thread was Prince playing an album, in full, front to back, no interruptions with other songs. Just like NIN did with "The Downward Spiral". Like Pink Floyd has done with "Dark Side of the Moon", etc.

People, including me, walked out on Bruce Springsteen at the Oakland Coliseum in the 90s when he kept pawing his then back-up singer/mistress onstage, whom he subsequently married! Wanted to hear him sing, not paw his woman to death!

Well, you are so right, got the time reference wrong, come to think of it it was the late 80s...forgive my memory was a long time ago...but it was Patti he was pawing onstage and he was still married and supposedly happy... He sure as hell wasn't hiding his sentiments for Scialfa on stage and on the giant screens! LOL Spent more time doing that than singing!

Act I ... Prince blazed thru most of the Symbol album in Detroit on April 1, 1993. It was dope. [Edited 11/22/09 13:21pm]
