Purple Rain on UK Chart

Purple Rain is back in the UK Singles Chart this week - at number 62.

Not exactly top 40, but leaping 120 places in a week just shows the power of the X Factor in driving sales!

Can't stand X Factor, and that guy's performance of the song was nothing short of diabolical, but if it's making people go out and purchase Prince's music, then that is cool.

'cause a contestant sang it the other week and Simon Cowell said it was one of his favourite songs (they even showed a clip of the video/film before the guy did his performance of it).

Quite possibly - I know he thought P was a plank when he did American Idol, but he seems to love the song.

Even if he did, we are talking Purple Rain....you know...back when Price was actually one of the greats.

I was watching last Saturday (the week that guy sang Purple Rain) and seeing the short clip was the most exciting part of the whole show!

PR can still win over music lovers even 25 years later, that is so awesome,

Don't watch it.
But if it means more people will find out about Prince's music, then all well & good.
Jedward all the way lol

I've not seen the X-Factor performance, and not sure if I want to at this point, given the bad reviews of it.

Plus, as I've said before, THAT SONG SHOULD NEVER BE COVERED OR DUPLICATED, EVER.

It's just that it's SO unique to Prince, that no one has EVER done that song justice. I remember certain people on American Idol singing an iconic song and getting totally lambasted for it. That tall Middle Eastern guy last year did "Beat It" for Michael Jackson week on Idol. He was slammed for it, because it was such an iconic song specific to MJ. "Purple Rain" is in the same category.
