Appreciation for "The Truth"!

Although everyone's interpretation of their own individual experiences are different, I want to express appreciation for the song "The Truth." It expresses what so many of us go through--what is one person's lie, is another's truth... Everything in life is subjective, but there comes a point in most people's lives when they reach a moment of clarity about where they stand, and what they want out of life, and that is what I consider...

The Truth

What if half the things ever said
Turned out 2 be a lie...
How will U know the Truth?
If U were given all the answers
And U stopped 2 wonder why
But how will U know the Truth?

Everybody's got a right to love
Everybody's got a right to lie
But the choice U make aint no piece of cake
It aint no MF piece of pie

What If time's only reason?
Was to give us all somethin' 2 fear?
And if so y'all, the end of the journey's so clear
What did U stand 4?
Who did U save?
When it gets right down to-wait a minute
When it gets right down to the nitty of the gritty
When it gets right down to it U take more than U gave

Everybody got a right to love
Everybody got a right to lie
But the choice U make aint no piece of cake
It aint no MFMF piece of pie

Mmmm oh
Gotta (Gonna?) tell the truth y'all
Gotta tell the truth
Gotta tell the truth y'all
Gotta tell the truth
Gotta tell the truth y'all
Gotta tell the truth

If there was just one day
That everybody tell the truth
We'd all trade bank accounts & move to back to Neptune... prince

This whole CD from Crystal Ball set called "The Truth" is mostly great! It is raw and mostly acoustic so even on my inferior computer speakers it is great! Mostly just Prince stripped down without all his production--so many songs he sings just bare his soul with minimal instrumentation... It is a real treasure! I haven't heard this before but I can highly recommend it! If Prince can put this same type of music I will remain a fan...and I haven't heard any of his stuff in over ten years! Thumbs up! biggrin

Like much of the album its on, it's ok, not earth shattering. I don't listen to this album very much really, there's just something about it which doesn't grab me. I play it occasionally but find myself reaching for the skip button rather a lot.

I really LOVE this song. To me it's a philosophy of life. It asks us to analyse and look beyond the filter of our perceptions.

I notice the questions part is skipped out in the lyrics above, but they are the most important part. They should be added. "Question is....Question is...Did you take more than you gave?"

I love the way he does it. He's singing about the essence of life but he does it playfully. "The choices we make sure ain't no piece of cake. But one thing is for sure, we do all get our piece of pie."

We ARE our choices, every single one of them. Our reactions and creations are delivered back to us as experience, whether we take or give. As complex as we like to make life, it really is quite simple, when it boils down to the nitty gritty. If we are truthful.

Likewise - I love jamming this on an acoustic! If only I had the voice to match!

The whole of The Truth disc is just fantastic - its unfortunate that this was tucked away on the Crystal Ball set, as it largely went under the radar with many people.....it deserved its own individual release I feel.

Yep, I'm one of "those" that likes Animal Kingdom! Love the instrumentation and production and there's nothing wrong with the sentiments of the lyrics either (and, no, I'm not vegetarian or vegan!).

People seem to get all het up about lines like "funky, funky blue cheese" but I find that line amusing! I mean, there's not much as funky (read stinky or smelly) as blue cheese! Its the best pro-veggie song I've heard anyway lol
