Prince:Pioneer of the new sound?

ok so ive listened to quite alot of music from the late 70's but when i listened to prince's 'for you' and 'prince' ive never really heard musical new-instrument sounds like that, except for maybe donna summer.
but who would you say came up with that use of music?

Um, Stevie Wonder? Could you be more specific? Those early records are (although wonderful) very late 70's funk sounding. Prince really made his own sound with Dirty Mind.

Right from 'For You' Prince replaced traditional horn lines with synths, which became the trademark of the Minneapolis sound.

Not that no-one else ever used synths that way, but this is what Prince pioneered if you wanna put it that way, right from the get go.
