Lovesexy vs Rainbow Children

Prince's get deeps sometimes. He doesn't mind releasing songs like "Planet Earth", "Colonized Mind", et al... but what do you consider his most thought provoking album

Lovesexy or Rainbow Children???? And Why? On the lyrics to "Alphabet Street" he sings "We're going down, down, down if that's the only way to make this cruel, cruel world hear what we got to say" .... what do you figure he means by this?

Musically both albums go in different directions. Lyrically both albums go in different directions.

TRC touches on race relations and history. Lovesxey is about love and GOD.

It seems P likes to delve into deep, controversial issues. I think it's really brave of him. Today, artist get ripped for not being politically correct but Prince has always spoken his mind.

As Wendy and Lisa said..don't read to much into prince's lyrics

As Prince said "It's about the music"

The line right after that was a direct nod to "We Are The World...."a better day" is pretty much the same delivery that USA For Africa had on the song.

Prince saying he's going to talk to the world about something isn't a new message in his music either. He was talking about taking a bad world and making it good again. Lovesexy was all about enlightenment, God, being peaceful, and yet being political at the same time, with a health orgasm thrown in for good measure. You have to just think about Prince's themes in his music to that point (and even beyond with "fuck the man" type songs like "New Power Generation", "My Name Is Prince", "Jughead" (I know, I know), etc), and when you do, "Alphabet St." fits right in there.

But to compare Lovesexy with TRC is like comparing a rose to old lettuce.

The first line is "I'm going down" and he's definately doing something with his Tongue while the lady recites the alphabet at the end. The alphabet is quite a well known oral sex technique to, er, pleasure a woman, so...

I'm sorry, I've lost my train of thought...

Maybe these theories of mine should stay private, eh? smile

Personally-as i'm not into religion-neither are a 'deep' experience for me lyrically. Musically-they're both great-Lovesexy having the edge as for me-it was a special time-never to be repeated

ATWIAD i find a deeper experience lyrically. Condition of the heart, temptation-the ladder.....these tunes and this album is a much deeper-thought proviking and thus-moving experience for me

although-i have to say-the Lovesexy shows-now i will admit i was very into the whole spiritual vibe on those nights-just like everyone else who was there-you heard some taking on the way out-shocked at themselves for chanting things like love is god-god is love.only P could make me do that-and i will say-they wer very uplifting nights wink

I never got the feeling that Lovesexy was such a "love spiritual awakening" album as I've read here a few times before. Maybe because they compared it with the history to the Black album, which I personally at the time never knew about. I always just found it sexy and fun.

I would have to therefore go for Rainbow Children, although I also find Lotusflower quite deep, apart from the more playful fun tracks.

What he means in Alphabet st. Personally, I think the words just rhyme nicely with the tune and the story. But if we wanted to interpret. It could mean, "being simple, getting down to the small things and putting the right letters together to spell nice easy words, like love, which spreads love.

actually erik... i getcha. funny thought tho. The song could be misinterpreted or an actual reference to oral sex. "put the right letters together... Make a better day...LOL

dont you think it's great that we all follow an artist who leaves his lyrics open to interpretation? I love it.

How boring would it be if we all thought the same? wink

Lovesexy is a spiritual trip of a man who tries to find,
what suits him the best

while The Rainbow Children album is about a man who is sure that he knows the best.

In term of music and sonic vibe TRC is Prince's best ever.
i laugh when someone describes the Rainbow Children
as 70's jazz rock
it's much more then that.
the only weak link on the album is James Brown pastiche
the Work pt.1
Last December song is up there with Purple rain and maybe its even better.

Well I like the sound of TRC better but the theme of Lovesexy better but they're both thought provoking, based on lyrics I would say Lovesexy, based on sound I would say TRC

I've thought that too. (not that I would know anything about it, but...) if U go down on a woman and do the alphabet with your tongue, U are bound to find the G spot. If I wasn't Gay, I'd do it in cursive writing! I'd also make sure I'd dot my "i"'s and cross my "t"'s! I think some comedian had something about that in their routine.
If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Prince has always been good as sexually seducing you into a spiritual thought...At least that is what he does to me.

This World that we live in is not a civilized as it ought to be. The world is trying to care. People with money have more power to make a physical difference...however people in need have the power to love and believe in togetherness.

Like the creative visualization techniques...If One person believes it will be sunny and 99 believes it will rain. It certainly may rain...

If that one person shares his or her sunny idea...there is a better chance that the sun will shine.

We need Sun and Rain...Yet We need Love and Hope...not Hate and doubt. cool

Yes, we have heard it many times here on the org that the trick is to try and brainwash yourself to like and enjoy TRC.
Forced repeated listening worked on some, creative visualization techniques might do the trick on others.
