the "Youtube failure".. is all about Prince trying to "protect himself"?

Anyway, if you look at it this way.. the Prince YouTube videos got less and less views... I mean the video to the leading single "Guitar" in 2007 had almost none views.

The "Guitar" add was on YouTube for a short time period, with negative response, and very low views...

It was embarrassing for a leading single to a new album, meaning: could this mean Prince did not want the press to write about this single/ album as "a failure" on YouTube,

therefor it was taken down, and therefor Prince can't be on YouTube... Prince is scared people finds out he is not as popular like he use to be. Not as popular as Madonna, MJ, - or -sorry- Susan Boyle, lol...

Prince's low views on Youtube shows he is a has-been super star, but not a big star no-more,

My guess is... the YouTube fiasco is all about Prince trying to "protect himself"...

am I right / or wrong here ?

ps. don't hate on me for taking this guess. wink

Are "views" more or less important than record sales today??? hmm

Prince don't care...he knows he's the bizness.
His confidence is on a whole 'nother level than most. (and deservedly so)
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Personally I think that Prince's low views are a reflection of the fact that people don't even look for his stuff on youtube much because he has made such a big brouhaha about taking everything down and suing folks and all that nonsense.
Had he left well enough alone, folks would dance with him on youtube, as it stands, daddy is doin' the solo samba. Can't have your cake and yadda yadda...

Well, Prince's authorized YouTube videos have commenting disabled, so that says something.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

He's only hurting himself in the end.

He could make so much more money and make so many more fans.

It's a real shame.

The real shame is people don't see the Big picture yet. Prince knows exactly what he wants to do in regards to you tube and the net.
In the end it won't be Prince that is hurt. Just wait and see. wink
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

If Prince is not as popular as Madonna or MJ that's news to me. I would'nt say he's a has been because he's defitnitely still a mega super star. He may not sell as much or cause as much a buzz, but you can never take away what he's done in the past which still lives. He's still a big influence on many of today's artists and he still captures an audience wherever he may appear or perform. Also I don't think many people would gripe about him having his music and videos taken down if they weren't interested. I do agree he might be sensitive about any criticism though.

There are plenty of Prince videos on Youtube that have mostly positive comments.

Like the performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Most of the people who comment on that video probably don't even know about Prince's issues with Youtube. Nor do they really care.

It's the same thing with other Prince videos on Youtube.

Please, spare me with this nonsense.

We need to get over this idea of a clear concise master plan where he will somehow outdo the youtubes and itunes when it comes to his shit.He thinks he does, but it never pans out, and he's too much of a control freak to work with youtube or itunes to develop prince specific area's of their sites.

He'd just need a decent management. He started as a pioneer of the web, and then he became the artist that used it in the worst way

Don't u think he knows that?
And if he knows that, don't u think if he really wanted 'so much more money' and 'so many more fans',
he would've lightened up on the YT fiasco already?
Wat so shameful in wat he's doing?
The man stands on certain principles and that's just it.
If he were to change things now...some ppl would still find that a problem and talk about it disbelief

Fuck the web.

Love him or hate him Prince is a HOF artist who does not need the internet to succeed. He had 50,000 people show up to the Superdome in 2004 with a so called sub par album and a TV apperance earlier that year.If you have sold tens of millions of albums back when the music industry ment something and selling those albums with meaningful competition around him will mean far more than a hit on You Tube.

The internet is not the end all, be all to everything. Even though we use it there are millions more out there who don't.

To even put You Tube (which I think is a cool site) in the breath as Prince is like putting Mozart in the same company as Lil Wayne.

"Prince is scared people finds out he is not as popular like he use to be"

Actually I personally believe it's the opposite. He's trying to keep his exposure to the public a bare minimum. I think he doesn't WANT to be all over the media, having to outrun paparazzi etc. I think he had his fill of superstardom in the mid 80s & now just wants to relax. He wants to be able to go places without being harassed all the time. I think he's seen what all the media attention does to people nowherdays - when constantly in the public eye you become paranoid & anxious. There is never a moment to relax. Everyone wants a piece of you. You're surrounded by people you can never really trust 24/7. It's stressful. In extreme cases it leaves the person a mere shell of what they used to be. It changes people & I think Prince wants no part of the modern day "celebrity" life. He has his hardcore fans who buy anything he has to offer to keep him living his luxurious lifestyle, he is a living legend who despite being an independant artist sells loads of albums & sells out shows in seconds. So he has no reason to try & sell himself to the public anymore... I think he justs wants to live a quiet, peaceful life from now on. He's in the perfect place he wants to be in regards to music, fame & money & he wants it to stay like that. Well that's what I think anyway, & I'm happy for him biggrin

Established legendary artists of Prince's stature do not need having free videos of their work on the net, it devaluates their work and does not generate any revenue.
Its nice for a struggling artist to post their demo's, but when it comes to the nitty gritty they want a nice contract to pay some bills.

The web is still relatively new, there should be no rush by any established artists to be in a position where they feel they are treated unfairly. The "fans" dont give a shit about artists they enjoy, they just want something for free.
Things have become kinda vague, but until things get a little more ironed out and artists can receive at least the kind of royalties that have been hammered out for radio and other distribution methods, he should stay the fuck out of Youtube or any other media he feels is unfair.
