I like Mary J. Blige, but Rod Stewart I can do without. Of course he had some good songs way back in the day, but he hasn't done anything worth hearing since 1980. His contribution to this is very hard to swallow.

I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to. I think that Mary J. Blige could do a good version on her own.

Well, now I'll open the can of woims. Mary J Blige is the most irritating drama queen in the history of music. Every freaking album she is trying to be happy or find peace with herself. If she's that damned depressed or unhappy with her life then I hope she deals with it in professional therapy and not through the her music. Shit, if I was going platinum at the rate she does I wouldn't have shit to complain about. Some artists reflect personal experiences without being contrived. She just ain't one of those people. In her favor, What's the 411 album was the best thing she ever released. Everything else was hot garbage with the exception of "Everday" and "Not Gon Cry".

Oddly enough I've always thought Rod did a good job on the Impressions' "People Get Ready" with THE GREAT Jeff Beck on guitar. But...

this is one that he AND Mary don't do justice to. Everytime I listen to one of her ballads it seems as if she's trying much too hard to get the point across. She's one of those vocalists that hasn't learned the power of subtlety.

Sounds pretty bad to me. In fact after the first couple of lines I had to close it out. Also got the days wrong.

Never was too crazy about Blige's singing - even though I can appreciate the pain and struggles she has experienced in her life and how she brings that across in her music.

Also didn't care for her version of Chaka Khan's "Sweet Thing" and the words to that were messed up in parts as well.

People who say an artist hasn't done anything worth hearing since 1984 need to think about what they are saying. That is only your opinion. I for one have been a huge fan of Rod for countless years and I think he still has a great voice and I still listen to his new music and I enjoy it. Rod has one of the most unique, amazing voices and has written some really great songs. I also know that Rod is a huge Prince fan. Also, on Rod's latest cd, Renato Neto plays on a few songs too. I believe that Rod is a musical icon and people should stop saying comments such as this about our great musicians and artists.

Whats The 411 is the BEST to you obeviously becoz its a phat ass seller,,and the ((REST)) is garbage?? Oh no doubt lol

But you wouldn't say that if you took the easy time to listen to her effort "Mary". Sure, she ain't no Chaka, she can't build no high notes and she ain't know Prince either so she can't play any damn thang.

But eva heard of "Passion"?? Yeah, I hear alot of ya'll praise Erykah Badu(Oh what a voice rolleyes) and the ever so boring Miss Jill Scott but you 4get Mary J.

This woman inspired alot of the ladies out there(including me) like Joi phrased it "Who cares if you don't have the good voice, you just do what the hell you do". She can pull complicated emotions in one song that none of them over-singing balllads divas can pull(Whitney-MC-Celine).

Hell, its surely enough that Aretha, Chaka, Patti, Stevie are giving her PROPS that none of ya'll can give. You guys need to check them ears,,,they're full!

I will triple co sign this. But I will add Mary's vocals are trash. Prince and Rosie would cringe to death listening to this garbage.

Mary J Blige is the Sugar Honey Ice and Tea.

Have you ever heard her cover of "As" with George Micheal, Very very good.

Id take her last few albums over Princes last few any day.

I like Mary J. Blige. Her voice has gotten better over the years and she sings with a lot of conviction. Addtionally, her albums are GOOD. You don't find filler galore on her records. I have always liked Mary.

If Rosie would get off her ass and record something we might be able to compare.

Oh dear, sure it seemed a good idea at the time. hehe

They don't seem to have any feel or understanding of the song at all and just plod through the lyrics and wail for five and half minutes, very boring.

I've listened to all of her albums and 411 is the only thing that ever moved me mainly because it represented a time in my life and it appeared that she COULD sing. She's got a few good songs in my opinion. And those few were good mainly because of the production behind them. (i.e. All that I Can Say-LBoogie, Everyday-D'Angelo, Beautiful-Jam&Lewis, Not Gon Cry-Babyface) I praise Erykah and Jill because they CAN sing, have range and aren't afraid to step outside of their boundaries. We've been hearing about My Life and No More Drama and being just plain ol' Mary for almost 10 years. She needs to give that shit a rest.

Another fault I find with her is this "Queen of Hip Hop Soul" moniker that she gave herself. I hear the hip hop but I haven't heard the soul yet. What would impress me is if she would let the Soulquarians produce some tracks for her instead of whoever the top producer in Billboard is right now.
