MPLSsound would've sold better by itself I picked this up on Day 1. I made a point of listening to each disc. Basically put them away.
The past few weeks I have been getting into MPLSsound almost non-stop; one disc in the car and one in the home; it's just by chance that I have 2 copies of it. I'm just digging it more and more. But I almost never got to it because I was so put off having to push through Bria and Lotus that the set was overwhelming. Now I have MPLS on constant repeat and think it's his best in many, many years; maybe all the way back to "Gold Experience." I think if I had bought it as a single disc I probably would've been grooving on it from the get-go instead of about 6 months later. Sounds like a hit CD to me. I would definitely recommend that disc but not the whole package to folks; I think it is a daunting task having to work though all 3 discs. Whatcha' all think? [Edited 11/6/09 15:52pm]

when lotuf flower got over played, i finally settled on MPLSound and got hooked. like you, the cd grew on me tremendously "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

Like TheEnglishGent said, I think to each his own is the main idea with this own. Unlike Emancipation, where a lot of the tracks across the 3 discs are uniform in their production and probably could have been condensed into 2 or 1 discs, Lotusflow3r has 3 very different discs. The fact that a Target shopper could pick up 3 cds for $12 in the middle of a recession right at the checkout line is a genius marketing technique. Without this, I can't say for sure if the album(s) would have sold as much as they did.
Personally, I was all about Lotusflow3r when it first came out, but for the majority of the time since then, I can't stop grooving to MPLSound. Just my 2 cents. [Edited 11/6/09 16:53pm]

I think it would have sold WORSE by itself. Prince needs to let his ROCK side shine more. Unfortunatley the main music buyers are the younger generation, teens to 25, and they arent digging a 51 year old throwing down Chocolate Box.

I think that people beg and plead for more Prince Music, than he gives a 3 cd set and some ppl want less music,,,, I guess we all have different Prince needs

In France Prince did release MPLSound on its own, but he named it Lotusflow3r.
I agree, its definately more cohesive than Lotusflow3r, the tracks flow together better. (77 Beverley Park sounds out of place to me between Love Like Jazz and Wall of Berlin on Lotusflow3r). The ending trilogy of songs, Better Than Time, Ol Skool Company and No More Candy 4 U are great together especially. However, i do like all 3 cds too. Although I always prefer it when Prince releases more music, so a 3cd set suited me just fine!

LotusFlow3r, although it's not as smooth, has got its die-hards, and the teasers were Exciting for many!
The release should have just been a double CD. There must be at least 1 listenable track on Bria's cd. he could have roped that in as well. No members only website and no Bria. 1 double CD! This would have delighted almost everyone. small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

MPLSound is boring, 3 stand out tracks....LOTUSFLOW3R on the other hand is one of prince's greatest albums. Brilliant! Keenmeister

I'm ecstatic that we got 3 or 2 CDs this year. They compliment each other and at the same time they stand alone. I put all 3 on shuffle. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I do too, although it has grown on me more....Keeping in mind that I Love Everything from Prince from the get-go. My scale is really opinionated....The creative person in me looks at even my own art work that way. I can throw a painting I worked on for two days in the garbage without hesitation.
