That's the problem with this guy... ... It's that you can't help eat your shorts realizing you were wrong.
Maybe it's why because it's two in the morning, maybe it's the wine, but here I am alone with a good pair of headphones listening with open ears and an open mind to MPLSoUND, and well, it's one of the best and more sincere music he's produced in years. It has the sound of a rich dandy in his fifties, going from time to time into clubs, who decides to grab today's sound and mash it up into something entirely personal. The slows songs are amidst his best ones. What was nowadays ridiculous symphonics yet startling tics ("Crucial","Strays of the World") is now resampled and rearranged with parsimony. Even the "Jack U Off" revival at the end is perfect. This is Prince resampling everything, included himself, finally doing a convinceable revamped raggamuffin. The more astounding is in the way he sings, even when Camille-styled or autotuned, it pours soul. Thumbs up, man. The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter

Someone should have just said "No" in the 80's.

Well I, for one, understand EXACTLY what he means.
Of course, I am also a better Prince fan than you three hooligans.

Mostly, I listen to Prince's music when I'm slightly tipsy/little bit drunk
To me it seems that I feel him better...and I think every album of him has brilliant songs!!! Don't like every song but I have favorites on every album, it just depends on mood/atmosphere I'm in at that moment...and how drunk I am ofcourse So,yes, I love MPLs too...

hmmmm, rather like bedding a freak after a drunken night and wakin' up the next mornin' thinking 'what the f£$%k did I do that for' i think you will read back your thread and be full of regret!.
MPLS , aside from 3 killer trax is evidence of man who is on cruise control and frankly can't be bothered to put in the effort anymore. I actually need to be drunk too before i listen to it!!. Please file the CD under 'totally non essential, for collectors only' section!.

Yeah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
But really. I think he tried this on "Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic". I mean cope with the times. This time he nailed it. Timberlake & Co. can go soak their heads. Really, It's a fun album. OK, I'm gonna hurt some of you guys, but "Chocolate Box" could have made its way into the "1999" tracklist. "Dance 4 me" sounds ridiculous at first, but as it approach the end, it becomes something musical and powerful, and it wouldn't have the same impact if it didn't sound kinda stupid at the beginning. All about the progression. "You're gonna C Me" would be a number one hit if the record industry was still up and alive, and if it was sung by the latest Soul Wannabe-Diva. And it's perfect arranged this way, just an FM song, far from the flaw the bootleg version is. It's all about the gimmicks. It's a dance album. Nothing more. But I'd rather listen this a thousand times instead of Usher or anything labelled R'n'B in the last decade. The guy just fools around with today's synths. And it's brilliant in its own way. I know it sounds like he wants to prove like he's still in the game. But if you think otherwise, realize the guy knows he has nothing left to prove and he knows it, then you get in his game, and have fun with a fun album. In some way, it's an humble album. It's an album to listen to at the right volume. To listen to in the shower. Or in the dark, laying on your sofa after a hard day of work. Finally, there's a lot of finesse in the mix. And every song has at least a ten seconds moment where it just climaxes, and gives all the rest of the song a purpose, a meaning. The vocals are perfect, much better harmonized than in the past. The guy wakes up and says to himself "Let's pretend I'm a different arranger and producer". He tried that in the past, but there was always something wrong. To sum up, it's the best non-Prince album Prince has ever made. It's really interesting, it's like a figure skating. The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter

Yes, any new artist would dream of making a kind of "bad" Prince album...maybe we are just a little bit spoiled

I'm more of a spectator however, LotusFlower MPLS and Elixer -HORRIBLE! First Prince CD I never bought since 1984, didn't even bother to copy it for free to my ipod.

That makes you more susceptible to be indulgent with people suffering from alcohol after effects ! About the insults, I wouldn't worry too much : Larry Hagman syndrome, typical. No, not "Graham", you fools. The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
