Am I hearing stuff or are there two versions? One from 3121 and the other from The Chocolate Invasion which sounds slower and the one I seem to like more

I love both. I love the fact that Prince can take any song and make it new and fresh. The words are what gets me.
"Oh baby this must be temptation cuz I can't get you outta my mind"

"If you ever say those beautiful words to me if I wanna be your fantasy....yes.....I wanna dance....I don't wanna give you my love". At that point I'm screaming give it....give it all.

My theory has always been that he wrote the song when he was falling in love with Manuela. He didn't want to see her dance because dancing would remind him of Mayte and everything they'd been through. Regardless of whose "fault" anyone thinks it was...he was hurting.

The 3121 version starts off with the same quality in the vocal...as if he's reflecting on that time. Only now...the relationship is ending. It's like he's saying, "I don't want to see you dance...I don't want to hold your hand...because you're leaving me and I still love you. How can you not love me?"

The two versions are bookends on that relationship. And to me, falling in love is always prettier than breaking up.

wow good post..in my life right now i can relate to the uglier side of things.
I rather listen to the the pain and scorn of heart break than...finding love.

As a musician I realised that when ur heart is hurting. it brings something
else out out you...it's like a therapy session...a release.

but i never looked at this song in that way. I appreciate ur opinion. caus it opened my eyes a bit.

I dont mean to sound like a jerk but it's been discussed a dozen times but ill reply anyway. I love this song,especially the 3121 version.

I like the orginal, 3121 version just seems like prince is trying to much, and it comes over sounding silly!

I love this Prince. I love that he is trying hard and letting it all hang out, but I'm a hopefull romantic. I think it's nice to see Prince undone in his love for a girl. The newer rants are Here & 4Ever.

I prefer the TCI version better.
