It is not my style to attack anyone or say negative things about someone nor will I here in this or any thread. I will say this, Ricco is a friend of mine and he will give you the shirt off his back if you ask him. More people should have a heart the size of his.

I am living proof of that! I met Ricco at Celebration 2 and was immediately floored by the beauty of his artwork. How can you not be mesmerized by his drawings of Prince - they look exactly like the man, almost to the point of being spooky!! I got to know Ricco and found him to be the coolest, nicest brotha ever... just a big ol' sweetie pie with a heart made of even more gold than what he was wearing that week!!! At one of the parties, he had on a shirt that was so awesome, Prince himself even walked up to him and said, "Nice Shirt"! Well, at the end of that week at the Bay Area picnic, Ricco took that same shirt right off his back, handed it to me, told me how to launder and care for it and said "It's Yours"!

Just like you can't say bad things 'bout "Miss Jenkins"... as long as I'm around, you can't say anything bad about my Ricco!! no no no!

that's pretty cold lovemachine...dissin' somebody's artwork like that..I understand you have an opinion and all but, talk about disrepect for no apparent reason.

My personal experience (not just hearsay) was ricco is a really nice guy. I met and spoke with him at the last 2 celebrations...I never heard the dude yelling anything...but like I said..that was just MY personal experience.
I would wear his creations!! I will if I ever find the cash to buy something from him. Lovemachine, have you seen his stuff in person? cause even if you wouldn't wear it yourself, can you deny his artistic ability? To me, he is extremely talented.

keep up the good work Ricco smile

To everyone who is getting on my case,

First of all I have the complete right not to like Rico's artwork. Like I originally stated I think it's cool, but it's very gaudy and I would not wear it.

You would think as an artist he would be able to take criticism. This is part of the price of being an artist and putting yourself out into the public eye; people are going to criticize. So after stating my opinion I get Rico and a bunch of other people making posts where they just don't state that they disagree with me they attack me personally like I did something wrong by not liking his stuff.

This reminds me of all the threads where people are all up in arms because critics gave Prince bad reviews for One Nite Alone Live. This is just proving to me that for some reason a number of Prince fans can't take any kind of criticism.

Rico told me that he is MrPRN in an orgnote so don't be telling me that he was not getting upset with me personally about criticism. For some reason he wrote this as if it wasn't him but this was his response to my criticism, "Lots of people and many compliments roll in on that stuff, I would take it a honor to wear it because it's different and he loves what he does and it shows, just because U can't step aside and make a way for those that do!!!"

While this makes sense and I would have respected his opinion if he would have made the comment under the name Rico instead of pretending that it wasn't him. But by pretending that it wasn't him it just makes his statements look very sad and very confusing. He also commented in the orgnote that he was with one of the other names of the people criticising me in the thread. Why no admission of this?

If this Rico is such a great guy how come he used quotes like, "The first time I remember seeing him, what the fuck are you gay, fudge packer, LOL"

Yeah Rico is such a great guy that he thinks its funny to make fun of gay people and use terms like fudge packer rolleyes

I also have every right to say that I am annoyed by someone who puts themselves out in the world for everyone to hear. If you are going to be the kind of guy who yells obscenities outloud or remarks during a movie you have to be prepared that some people are going to be annoyed by you.

So people what did I do wrong besides not liking someone's artwork and finding them annoying as a person?

No disrespect, but to make it as an artist you have to be prepared to deal with the criticism. By putting something out there into the general public and hoping to hear people say, "Wow that's great" you also have to be prepared to hear, "Wow that stinks". Otherwise do the compliments mean anything?

Ok so the word is out, PRN is me. I did change my name for the attention purposes. Ok, gaudy, yes it is - see I can take criticism LOL, but mostly it was for entertainers. That's what I did most of my life - stage purposes and then they started wearing my creations in the public and it was accepted very very widely. And believe it or not that was 1987 and my work is still popular today. This is not the only things I paint but this is what I love to paint. I am creative in all forms of art except I can't play a lick on a guitar LOL.

One thing I've learned from Prince, the critics are always the ones who can't do what you do. And believe me I am my own worst critic - I don't need you or any other critic for that matter.
It's one thing to criticize the art, but you made personal attacks. I have accepted and dealt with criticism all my life - believe it or not that's how we grow.

The gay comment: wrong again buddy. I have so many gay friends they think I'm gay. But if you would take the time to know me and not make these assumptions, you would know that I have a very deep love and respect for all people. People that know me know I do have fun, make jokes and occasionally yell "Where my nigga at?" LOL

Last but not least, I want to thank the people who stand behind me as I stand behind Prince who is standing behind God. Thank you all for the Kingdom is ours.

First of all I did not make personal attacks. I stated that I did not like the art and I gave my reason why and then I stated that I found you annoying and I gave my reasons. There was no vindictiveness whatsoever just my opinions backed by my reasons (Perhaps a little harsh, but hey...). You responded with personal attacks (ie asshole, fudgepacker), but in disguise pretending to be someone else which is kind of funny and sad when you stop and think about it. Also, how ironic is it that you end your posts with words about God and Love yet you use words like asshole and fudgepacker?

BTW, I just presented your gay comment exactly as you made it; so how can I be wrong?

I am now officially bored by this and moving on with my life. Good luck with your art but you better realize that not everyone is going to like it.

Locking this thread as it's turned into a petty personal argument.

Let me say this: lovemachine is perfectly within his rights to dislike someone's art and criticise it. It's just opinions.

What wasn't acceptable was the barrage of flames and homophobic comments that followed in response. We don't tolerate flames, racist crap, homophobic crap, sexist crap, or any of that stuff on the Org and if anyone trying to test us on that WILL be dealt with. Sorry to come across as being all authoritarian but we have a zero tolerance on the Org for such abuses.

Cheers

Ian
