People in my family are Jehovah's witness and different ones knock on my door all the time, I may invite him in and listen to what he has to say because I sometimes do. But no I would not join.

I mean, how the book came to be?
Does he read the same book as I do?
If so, history has shown us a number of choices and f*ckups that made the bible as it is today. That version of the texts errs quite a bit from the whole idea of christianity. Check the choices that were made in the past 1.75 millennia about the book.

Only after that we could look at the texts, try to grab the ideas in there, etc.

I would let him know I respect his choice to believe the things he believes, explain to him the reasons I'm an atheist and ask that he respect my beliefs. I'd listen to his "sell" on Witnessing and give him a follow up question of, "Are your beliefs 'f/actual' or 'metaphorical'".
