We were some Little House On The Prairie bein' motherfuckers. Yeah!! We kids were the remote control...back in my day. Try telling a kid to change the channel now-a-days. They'll spend 20 minutes looking all over for the remote before you have to instruct then on doing it manually. So true. And I had siblings, so it was a race to the TV to change the channel to our liking - half the time the knob came off and we would fight over possession of the damn knob. Of course, there were only 4 channels. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

And the thing is, buttons on a TV are hidden nowadays on the side, or are super small, because of remotes; that whole thing makes kids, and even adults, dependent on a remote control. It's still funny to me how my roommate gets upset when he can't switch the TV from Component to HDMI or A/V or whatever. I'm like....GET UP AND DO IT! The buttons are a touch sensitive pad on the front of the TV, and when you touch the panel, they light up, and you can change channels, go through the menu of inputs, volume, etc etc. He'll do it if he HAS to, but it's like pulling teeth. I HATE having so many damn remotes for things. And these "all in one" remotes rarely do everything the manufacturer's remotes can.

If PR is your favorite movie of all time, you need to hit the rental store, or keep your TV on Showtime, IFC, TCM, or HBO for a month at least.

Squirrelgrease mentioned it, I just assumed that was another film they have seen lots to. No significance other than that that I can see. Okay cool thanks for that.

About 40 times, first saw it on NZ TV in October 1992. (That was apparently the time Karen Krattinger came to NZ after being sacked by Prince, and said she turned on the TV to see Purple Rain playing). Videoed it and watched it until the tape burned through about 5 years later. Bought a DVD of it in 2005 and the 3 pack DVDs last year. Watch it once a year now, and then only the parts I like. I have the 2oth anniversary 2 DVD edition with the funny ass MTV special which has Little Richard saying "Prince is me in this generation, and I am going to give him this bible" and then Eddie Murphy in a very camp outfit imitating it. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Shit, I stopped counting after 100, and that was 3 years ago .
I've seen it so many times that for the entire duration of the film, I can speak EVERY line in unison with the person speaking. I epsecially love to do Wendy's line, "...a dark cloud over your head...doesn't that make you feel like shit?" LMAO I love a Man who:

I'm not sure if you grew up in the US or not but I'm going to guess that you didn't because if you did, you would know that in the US from 1959 through 1991 the Wizard of Oz was an annual television and in school special movie event and no matter how many times you'd already seen it, you watched it, each time it was on. So if you're like me and have seen Purple Rain more times than you've seen the Wizard of Oz...that's really saying something! Saying what exactly...is another topic! [Edited 11/3/09 9:08am] I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I saw it once, way back when it came out and don't really wish to see it again.
I prefer just listening to the music. I have ordered SOTT dvd though so am looking forward to seeing that. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
