boom said: I have been buying Prince cassets and now cds for as long as I can remember. I was never much into true collectibles - I always ripped whatever I had open to listen to and enjoy the music, except the circular Crystal ball cd.
But today my husband bought me a 12" Prince and the Revolution, Purple Rain 2-cut maxi single and it says limited edition pressed on purple vinyl. It includes Purple Rain (8:45 min) and God (3:59 min). It's in the original plastic and has never been opened. Does anyone have this? Is it a rare item? During the 21 Nights here in London, a bunch of his 12" were pressed and back in the shops, so yours could be quite new.

I don't think a purple vinyl version was reissued in 2007 when the 12"s were re-released in the UK, and Sleevographia doesn't list one: http://sleevographia2.fre...urple3.htm [Sleevographia edit] [Edited 11/2/09 12:14pm] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

These releaes don't command high prices - they are never released by Prince / or through the record company with which he was affiliated. They are just independent pressings released to cash in at the time on Prince's popularity, regardless of quality or content. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

If you're going to keep it, it's best to remove the shrink wrap, and store it in a plastic sleeve (you can buy 100 for like $7 at places). So yes, if you're going to just resell it, keep it sealed. Just curious...ernestsewell, how is this so? Most of my Prince albums and 12"s still have the plastic on them. I never knew this... I do know of the plastic sleeves your talking about though... It does not always happen, but sometimes the shrink wrap can contract making the record warp. It depends on how you store your records..if you keep them packed close together it's probably not going to be much of an issue. If you just have some on a shelf somewhere you might have problems. .
