Between which albums do you think Prince's style and music changed most dramatically? I'd say either Prince - Dirty Mind (adoption of New Wave/Punk attitude) or PR-ATWIAD (commercial Minneapolis sound to Pseudo-Psychedelic)?

Also, do you prefer the 1999 or PR look/fashion? Definitely 1999 for me as PR was a bit too flamboyant but 1999 still had a bit of the 'rude boy' attitude and 'don't-give-a-fuck' attitude.

The sound changed greatly between ATWIAD/Parade to SOTT. SOTT had a "muddy" feel to it, whereas Lovesexy was very crisp and clear in other ways; and of course ATWAID/Parade was a cross between pop/a tad of funk/a tad of blues/jazz and a heap of left over Sgt. Peppers. GB/D&P suffered greatly from the sound of that time period and Prince latching onto it. A LOT of the remixes from then of his were just horrible in that regard, with only a few being really great. His mid 90's synth/rock vibe was excellent and he's certainly never captured that again after Chaos & Disorder. His sound dried up with NewPowerSoul (which had a great juxtaposition listening to Crystal Ball at the same time).

Prince's sound in the 00's has been par for the course, but that course isn't one I'd like to be enrolled in. Only a small, SMALL bit of stuff has varied enough in the 00's to get my attention.

Hell, even the time between For You and Prince had a different sound to it. Each album was a grown, but that growth had a bit of a stunt around 1990/1991, but by 1994, he was getting back on track to being true to his musicianship and his prolific nature.

Mmmh... the jump from "Emancipation" 2 "Kamasutra" was quite hardcore
