I always thought the best version was Original Mix Edit on the cd single, basically an extended version of the album track. Why it was titled "Original Mix Edit" I have never quite figured out

ernestsewell said: There's so much symbolism in that track, and that album.
He opens the album w/ a track telling folks his name, making a huge ego statement, and rightly so. Yet, in the video, he covers the face that everyone recognizes. The album is called which becomes his means of identification only 8 or 9 months later, thereby negating the very statement made in the opening track. It would be his last "Prince" release for 7 years, other than the compilations or contract-ridden albums that Wb puts out like The Black Album, The Hits, The Vault. He releases a video of the first half of the album, telling some loose story about finding his true self, changing his name, and burying his past, all by way of some alleged spiritual intervention. It's like "Hey, I'm Prince.,..... PSYCHE!" And when he does go back to being Prince, it's bookended with another spiritual intervention, except this time it's organized, it's cultic, and it rips Prince of his very being. I have to admit....I often skip MNIP and "Sexy MF". I just have to be in the mood for them. "Sexy MF" is a better song of the two, but for some reason, starting the album with "Love 2 The 9's". It gives listening to the CD a whole different vibe. wow i actually agree with u ernest....after hearing ur love for Planet Earth i thought we never would......

OMG,I love this song and album. "My Name Is Prince" is terrific. The funk just oozes on this one and the stank just don't stop. [Edited 11/1/09 11:18am]

thedance said: Prince sounds so agreesive, attacking the airwaves, going for a hit song once again, in full force.... a great intro, I wanna be your lover/ Party up/ Controversy, and a great bass line, great rhythms as well,
The musicvideo is amazing too, fire and water, Prince dancing, a black outfit, the chain hat and black gloves with gold symbols on... cool, I just love this dynamic track: Unfortunately My Name Is Prince wasn't a hit song, what do you think about this track??? I have so many memories to this track, I was in Barcelona when the album was released october 1992, I bought both the cd and cassette tape, I was listening on the hotel room to those new songs over and over on a Sony Walkman, I was so amazed by this album, Sexy MF had already been releaed and then My Name Is Prince, Prince was so challenging, attacking, shocking with those tracks.... I miss the shock effect in his music of today. But I still have my memories, and the energy of My Name Is Prince will always be dear to me. I saw 2 shows in 1993: Stockholm and Gothenborg, this opener was great LIVE as well. Anyone agrees with me on this track.... It was top 5 here in the U.K.

Me, too. very cool Sci-Fi, 2 great shows but did you see the aftershow at Park Lane as well? Great but short... Me and a friend of mine shook hands with Mr. Hayes before Prince and band later entered the stage Prince 4Ever.

i like its energy, but it just goes on and on and on. especially Tony M's part. i prefer the single edit. better yet, i prefer the edit of the single edit that i made removing Tony M from it entirely. there are such handy little splices in that version to to help excise him completely.
