Had Controversy first and it made me a huge fan. Love them both but Controversy takes the cake.

No album containing Ronny talk to Russia and Jack U Off can possibly trump an album containing Uptown, Head, Sister and Partyup, no matter how good the other songs on it are.

I disagree!
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

Dirty Mind 8
When U were Mine 10
Do It All Night 8
Gotta Broken heart Again 7
Uptown 10
Head 8
Sister 6
Party Up 9

67/80 = 84% cool

Controversy 9
Sexuality 9
Do Me Baby 10
Private Joy 8
Ronnie Talk To Russia 6
Lets Work 8
Annie Christian 7
Jack U Off 7

64/80 = 80% biggrin

Easily Dirty Mind as it was more revolutionary and trend setting, yet Do Me Baby my favourite track of the era. Overall brilliant albums, but Controversy real does ride DMs laurels a bit
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Song-wise I actually think Controversy is a little bit better, just because of the masterpieces Do Me, Baby and the title track are, but overall, as an album, I prefer Dirty Mind. It is short, funky, has a concept, a dirty, revolutionary rude-boy message and is more "unique" than many other of his albums, including Controversy.

I think I prefer Dirty Mind as a whole, but I have to say there's nothing as great on it as the title track of Controversy.

I think Dirty Mind is the better album from start to finish and a better overall statement.

But Controversy, Do Me Baby, and Let's Work are 3 songs that are as good as anything he's ever written!!!

I would put those 3 songs up against any other 3 songs in Prince's career.

Dirty Mind all the way!!!! Pure perfection!!!!

Controversy is great but just doesn't match up to Dirty Mind, so many classic songs.

Those are my favorites on Controversy too, they are like corner stones on the album. Very impressive and timeless.

Which album do you like best?

I have much love for both albums because of their innovative songs and infectious beats but I do love Dirty Mind the most. The album's first three songs are really cool, the title track with its sex funk, When U Were Mine with its strong melody and Do It All Night with its infectious beat. When Uptown starts to play I get in a serious party mood. I think this song is the highlight of the album! Uptown fades out and then it's time for a really funky celebration of oral pleasures.

I think Dirty Mind stands out as one of Prince's most intriguing albums.

I'm with you. Fun question. I had a hard time choosing because I feel the same as you about Dirty Mind but if I was on an island and I could only have one or the other, I'd choose Controversy just to hear Do Me Baby. tonk

What with the length of Dirty mind I can easily get through both albums together as if they were one cool althoguh production has been upped ever s slightly with the latter
