Prince>1994-2009<Prince? MTV Awards in Berlin

1994 Berlin was the First MTV Award Show in Europe. Prince was the last awaited guest that night at foot of the Brandenburger Tor ...Tom Jones introduced him without saying a word just holding up a shiny symbol...Prince spoke a few words at the start i think...saying Peace to George Michael ....Peace 2 Aerosmith...then Breaking into Peach ...i think Mayte even did some stage diving ...which was kinda funny because the people where not expecting it and it looks like she just falls between the people and then gets up on the stage like shes ok ...and then starts dancing again...i have tried to find the video
for years ...no luck....pictures i also had no luck ...This years 15th Show will Air on the 5th of November 2009.

PS Maybe if we are lucky they will do a Flashback look at all the Performances
in the Preshow ...maybe.

altho, looking back, that performance was quite nice, at the time it was
a major let down.

it had been reported before that prince would play A FEW song from his
upcoming "the gold experience". his segment of the show kept getting a
lot of hype. and it just lasted and lasted and lasted until he finally
took the stage, only to break out with a short version of peach only to
leave the building immediately after.

as i said, looking back, it IS a cool performance and all, but back then
it felt like "ok, uhm, that was it?"

I was there back then and was quite disappointed but the aftershow at the Tränenpalast was great ! I never liked Peach as a single release and think that the song never really had a lot of potential.

well, i loved most of the live versions of it and i don't mind the album
version either. it's a fun little rock tune.

and indeed, the aftershow at tranenpalast was/is excellent! headbang

Steven Tyler was there but he didn´t perform with him. Steven Tyler was in the audience.George Michael was also there and Prince walked up the stairs to him and spoke with him for a few minutes. He also mentioned him during the show, giving props to him ( this was during George Michael´s battle with Sony ).
Jean Paul Gaultier and Naomi Campbell and Ray Cokes were standing right behind me, German singer Herbert Grönemeyer was standing right next to me and enjoying the show. There were many celebrities but I don´t remember all of them off the top of my head.
The show was great but the sound sucked.

I remember that. biggrin

Wasn't there some story about prince being angry about MTV not showing the Peach video, which is why he played that song - to get back at them? biggrin

yeah i taped this performance on vhs at the time, it started off shakey cos princes voice was drowned out by the music, he sang the first verse of peach in a lower tone, like the studio version, the rest of the song he had to raise the bar a bit but it sounded a lot better then. mayte looked as sexy as ever of course!

It's a good track list - very much like a Gold Experience Tour 1995 show, so I ordered the bootleg and just got it and am listening to it now. Am looking forward to hear what We March sounded like in 1994. biggrin

Well, it basically sounds like the 1995 version, really. sigh

I guess he must have updated the September 1994 version by November 1994. confuse
