It's not one of his best, but I did like Deuce & a Quarter, and Johnny.

Gold Nigga? Its a cd for crying out loud,we can say the name, unlike The Symbol Album

I'm offended by the name..... sad rather than open a can of worms by 'giving permission' to all onsundry to state it and yes (I KNOW it is the album title) but in the same respect that SOTT & TRC albums r abbreviated cant we do the same with this one..?

I dont own this album.... & I WONT own this album simply because of its title... wink

Wow I didn't know about the copyright stuff going on. I have the cd without the McCartney sample but I have to agree with the posters about this cd. Black MF and Call the Law are okay. Other than that it's a hard listen. Johnny is fun because Prince is the lead on that one and it sounds like he has a lollipop in his mouth during the whole song - more like the band sitting around being silly.

It has some good tracks....some prince being funny with different types of accented voices....i don't know the price ur looking at but under 20 dollars it would be worth the purchase.....But to be honest i think it is my most dust collector in my prince library..I mostly pull it out to hear "2gether" and Black m.f. in the house" the most meaningful songs from the album.

'Johnny' absolutely MUST be in my collection...
the track is soooo Fonkay!!
I also like, Black M.F., 2gether, and the former b-side, Call The Law
must have disc in my opinion, but then, I bought it from 1-800-NEW-FUNK when it came out, and have no idea how much the one you're looking at costs... so, worth it to own? YES! worth the price you may have to pay? maybe not.
Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

Just an FYI: This CD is heavily counterfeited, especially the 16-track version. Many times the 2gether EP is tacked on the fake discs - those are easy to spot, but not always. Do some research if you want a legitimate copy. Housequake used to have a "How To Spot A Fake" for this particular item that showed the pressing numbers around the center hole. The Housequake page can probably be dug up at the internet archives. If the price is too good to be true... it is.

to me...the 2 things redeemable...make that 3..about GoldNigga is(listed in order of importance):

1.That gold chain peeking out through the thighs of the woman on the album cover, not nearly as nice as the Madhouse covers, but uniquely awesome just the same.

2. The chorus of 2Gether. The rest of the song is kinda lame...too positive for my taste. But I still like the chorus, espicially if it hadn't been the hook of a rap tune.

3. The Chorus of Deuce & A Quarter. Tre funky. What is a Deuce & A Quarter any way. I know it's a car(I think...lol)...but what kinda car...i suppose I should just google it.

Black MF In The House is funktastic.... That said, unless you are a completist, the current going rates for the CD is not justified.

falloff I was trying to be nice lol

There's a song called Black MF? lol Last I saw it was 199.00 which is crazy lol

nod Prince performed it during his 1992 Act I/Act II tours. I love that song.

As luck would have it I have this in a Word doc. This was posted before the "Fakes" thread was started, which with the pictures was invaluable for collectors.

How to identify a legitimate copy of Gold Nigga

As I have now changed my sig permanently, I thought it would be an idea to post this info in a seperate thread as the subject comes up every so often.

Legitimate Gold Nigga pressings
The discs have no catalogue # as such, however they do have a Disc ID etched into the inner ring of the discs.

MFG BY CINRAM ... USA ... NPG-GN ... 1019-12 (16 track)

Disque Americ 01S02GOLDNIGGA (16 track - sold at Belgian concerts and NPG store MPLS )

ZOMAX OPTICAL-PLYMOUTH MN-Z10054 05651 (15 track - bought mine at NPG store Camden UK)

These are the only 3 confirmed legitimate pressings of Gold Nigga - ANY OTHER DISC ID OR CONFIGURATION IS A PIRATE (sometimes called "Canadian repressing/re-issue").
One thing - apparently some of the 15 track pirates have very shoddy artwork - the cover of a legitimate disc should fold out 4x and have the lyrics for Gold Nigga printed one side and 2Gether printed on the other.

First off, yes I have the first edition of the CD which came out in late summer / early fall 1993.

I bought it at the Belgian Act II gig, which was one of the first times the CD was available. http://prince.org/events/1993/9 -> http://prince.org/events/618

The disc was also sold at later gigs. I know because GigaSwing in Hasselt had a guy buy a bunch at one of the gigs after Ghent for the Prince fans/completists that visited his shop.

I bought the 16-track Goldnigga and the 2gether EP at the Minneapolis NPG store. My GN copy is the CINRAM ... USA ... NPG-GN ... 1019-12.
