Musically, I love it.
Lyrically, I ignore a lot of it.

Lyrically, I ignore a lot of it. lyrically, it's serious as hell...but I think we tend to forget Prince's ultimate suggestion in it...which in my view is something higher, a stronger unity...which is THE RAINBOW CHILDREN aka all of us Snare drum pound on the 2 & 4

It was the last album he actually toured properly, so he must have been pretty pleased with it. Since then, it's just been hits tours.

I should check the list of what he performed at paisley two weeks ago. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

I think that the Rainbow Children is a great album. It's definitely the most polarizing album of Prince's career.
Either folks think it's amazing, or crap! I love the musicianship. Especially since the music he was putting out before that album was plastic sounding and generic. It sounded inspired, IMO. The heavy religious theme of the album didn't bother me, because Prince was using spiritual and religious lyrics and imagery from for a long, long time. When he said lyrics like "Save me Jesus, I've been a fool" in Anna Stesia. And says that Jesus is the only lord during the Purple Rain Tour. He's not talking about a "Universal God" as people claim and want to believe. He's talking about a Christian God. It makes me laugh when people say this album is sexist. It's as if they've never heard a Prince song or seen any of his videos before. You're talking about the same Prince that wrote "Bambi" right? The same Prince that wanted to give his girlfriend and protegee the stage name Vagina? That same Prince? The guy who named the "hero" of one of his songs "Pussy". Have you seen the Gett Off video, by any chance? Those versions of Prince weren't sexist back then. But since 1+1+1 is 3 he IS a sexist!!! Whatever you say!!! JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Huggiebear said: I have tried hard, very hard and so hard to like this album, but I can't, there is just so much filler and stupid Jehovah Witness messages. I can only listen to four songs on the album (They are 1+1+1=3, She loves me for me, Last December and The Sensual everafter, and I love their beats and musicality rather than their sentiment), and I must wonder, what was floating through Princes head when he wrote this turd fest.
What I hate about the Rainbow Children 1. He plays the slowed down voice of God (Most songs) 2. Extremist born again Christian sentiments 3. Anti - Semitism (Family Name) 4. Sexism (Muse to the Pharoah) 5. Stupid ass artwork on the sleeve 6. The fact is drags on for fourteen songs 7. The fact it proves how much of a narrow minded superstitious plonker he had come since his days of sexual liberation and dilettantism. 8. The fact he wa sinfluenced, by washed up born again Larry Graham (He makes Tony M look like Sheila E in comparison) Now I know I am going to get some hate here, but save it for another thread, u don't agree, I respect that, but save your venom for somewhere else, otherwise if you can't stand the Rainbow Children either tell us about it. ( I am waiting for you Ernest and Imago) I love the artwork and packaging. How's that bad? "Good Times" I like the title track a lot, it's dramatic and builds gloriously. I love the slowed down voice. Always like it when Prince plays with alter ego voices. I really like Digital Garden as well. And Family Name... is that the name of the track? I wish Avalanche was part of this album. I don't really listen to the lyrics for the big written picture of his agenda. I just hear the words as sounds that happen in combination with the instruments/effects. [Edited 11/13/09 11:06am] My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
