"better with time" enters r&b chart Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Prince notches his 62nd hit on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, as "Better With Time" begins at No. 81. Since he first arrived with "Soft and Wet" on the July 29, 1978 chart, only Jay-Z (90) and R. Kelly (79) have amassed more entries. On Adult R&B (viewable at billboard.biz), Prince's latest debuts at No. 27, his highest start since "Betcha By Golly Wow!" entered at No. 18 in 1996 .. | |

Goes to show that if you pee on someone or pour Cristal on them you'll sell records! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! | |

Valentina would have been a better R&B single. It's not as cookie cutter sounding as 'Better With Time' which to me is just a terrible choice for a single.
Hell, even COlonized Mind had an old school 'Commodores/Earth, Wind & Fire' vibe to it that was more deserving of being a single. Prince NEEDS someone else to pick his singles. | |

Time will tell, but I can't see it being a major hit. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. | |

Better With Time was a good choice for a single considering it's market. It's the slow R&B cuts that seem to register for Prince these days so why not stick with what works?
I haven't heard it on the radio yet but I'm glad to see it's doing well. It's a cool tune and should be enjoyed by the masses. Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game! | |

Tom Joyner played it the other day w/ Whitney's new joint. Everyone really liked it on the show. Smart song. Its got a soothing quality and you listen closely to the lyrics. | |

I know he wrote this song supposedly for Kristen Scott Thomas but I was just watching Shelia E's "gone country video" and SHE DOES get better with time, this song should really be about Shelia E.....wowza! | |

It kind of speaks to how weak an 'achievement' it is. Most name acts can at least hit the bottom of the charts with a single. Let's hope Prince can get it together and dominate again. | |

What would Prince have to do to be tops on the charts? I know alot of people here are very critical of his lastest output but it is very good music. The playing field is not level. There's no payola boosting his sales. No big company backing or back room stuff. It's just man against the machine. The almighty dollar determines what the masses hear and what it doesn't. I remember calling my "local" Clear Channel radio station to ask them to play the new Prince stuff and they said they wern't allowed to play his new stuff; sad. Ok, my soapbox is starting to wobble. I'm getting down. Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game! | |

----- What are you talking about the song is in the low 20's on the RnB chart as of today. Some of you are so negative your willing to make shit up. Considering the lack of payola and big label behind him he is actually doing pretty good some of you need to get your head out of your asses about what really gets a song on the radio. | |

I'm getting down. OK, I don't know how things are done over there, but recently I discovered how things are done in my country. I'd been involved in a greek singer's fan-club for a couple of years and the label he was signed in was doing nothing to promote his debut cd whatsoever. It was not even being played in any of the 3 radio stations owned by the record company owner! We did whatever we could as fans, phone calls, e-mails, letters, even paid SMS requests targeted at specific stations and specific shows at a time. Nothing worked. NOT ONCE did we manage to get one song played on a major radio station! Despite all this the singer managed to release a second album with another label. Soon we figured out that it was gonna get the treatment of the first one so as a last resort a friend of mine called the manager's office of a radio station. She was told that someone from the record company together with the singer's manager (or the singer himself) should come by and bring 15.000 Euro. That should have 1 song played once every 2 hours for a month. Same response from the major TV music channel (only they didn't discuss specific amount of money over the phone - maybe it was negotiable with them...) So... that's the way business is done around here... Over the years there have been public complaints by several very well-known artists with decades of established careers, that the radio stations refuse to play their new songs unless they get paid. But no-one really pays any serious attention... I am but mad north-northwest

Dial it down a bit and re-read...It's #81 on Billboard's main R&B chart, and in the 20s on URBAN AC, a separate format/chart that caters to older listeners. No one made anything up. But other than that I agree that he's doing pretty well. Good to see he can still chart at all. | |
