I looked at the video and Prince was referring to gesture. I saw some photos of him and Bria at a basketball game and he was holding his pinkee finger out drinking something out of a cup may called it femenine.I really don't think
Prince meant it.I know he could be bull head and sometimes escape his responsibilities.And people we all know what they are.But liked someone said

I see where some might. Unfortunately he could've done the same expression when that song came out (perhaps right up until he became JW) and it be perfectly fitting and even appropriate. Back then I would've taken it to be expressive of the ignorance of the close-mindedness the song speaks about.

Bringing my post back on topic, I understand what the OP is saying. However, I think Prince has long expressed (since the early 90s) his tolerance for gay people (rather than his former acceptance). In this day and age, I believe Prince looks down on a lot of different subcultures and homosexuals are among them, but I don't think he made the gesture to offend rather than to illuminate the preconception. He's saying HE was making gestures like this, HE was embodying this type of behavior and people immediately thought he was gay for it. His true opinion of homosexuality isn't really spoken on the song from 1981 nor this performance.

With his recent history (demanding Wendy and Lisa renounce their homosexuality, media comments against gay marriage, playing Bambi on the Ellen show, Jehovah's Witness doctrine etc) it just amplifies the intent of a gesture like this. I'd suggest it was done on purpose and reflects who he is these last ten years.
