Betcha By Golly Wow Appreciation

Just copped the Emancipation album, and this song really stood out to me. Yes, I know its a cover, but damn, Prince puts his mark on it, with his scream at the end of the second verse, the adlibs "Don't you let them tell you otherwise" Not sure if the spoken part is his or not, but its pretty awesome nevertheless. Masterful

lovely song in itself - great original by the Stylistics - and a GREAT cover by Prince !! We had this as our 1st dance on our wedding day !

I usually prefer originals but here I think P outdoes the original - mainly down to his voice/singing/phrasing - just brilliant !! P's version is more dramatic (both in the vocals and also the music), whereas the Stylistics version is more chilled. Given the title of the song, I think the added drama is more apt !

Yes, CoolTarik1, the spoken part is P's own work !

I love his version of Betcha By Golly Wow!. His version made me listen to the original with new ears and it made me love the The Stylistics version too. That's just a great song period.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Sorry but I thought his vocals were a bit off on this one, compared to the original it sounds a tad painful to hear.

They still play it occasionally on Smooth Radio in the UK though.

I like it, a beautiful LOVE song.... love2

I guess Prince really was trying to show emotions to Mayte with this song:

and it's a "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" kind of song - part II.

I tend to favor "La La Means I Love You" a bit more, but I do enjoy "Betcha By Golly Wow". I love that he really dug and found an OLD OLD song to cover (same with "La La"). I'm happy, if for no other reason, that he brought a couple of old, and sometimes forgotten songs, to the spotlight a bit. I also dug that he used an original drum fill in "La La".

Both songs are not really my 'style' (a bit too sugarsweet for me), but i really dig the backing vocals on them. They sound gorgeous.

I LOVE the Stylistics version. The Stylistics are one of my all time favorite R&B groups and should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Prince's version isn't bad at all.

The thing I dislike the most is that he held back on this one.

Great song...some of his best vocals
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

True enough the Stylistics did this full justice, however, Prince's cover isn't shoddy at all. I winder if he will ever sing it again since it was in honor of Mayte's pregnancy?
