As much as I love D&B...I wouldn't want that.I have plenty of D&B remixes of his songs that are hot...but done by producers of that genre. If he let actual D&B producers do the music then cool, but this would never happen..I'm just breathing some life into the thread

i dunno, 'Frontline' by Newham Generals was better 'til they got Monk dishing out Church Leaflets. P must be too in love with love to lend a ear to Dizzee. If we compare and contrast The Cross to Fix Up Look Sharp. Similar instrumentation, completely different message.

You're right, i've had over 80 tracks out in drum & bass within 5 years and i've never seen anyone get to do a remix for someone big like that, just wouldn't happen, especially for american artists as most of them don't even know what d&b is. I've only seen remixes done of old rave tracks like by The Prodigy or obscure commercial stuff.

I'd like to see some remixes done by Alex Reece who remixed some Miles Davis stuff titled 'Rated X" that was pretty cool. If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I dunno - one collaboration that would definitely work would be if Prince got in the studio with Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher, what a devastating combo that would be and would be much easier for Prince to connect with, given that Tom is such a fantastic musician (currently lauded by many, including myself, as the best bass player in the world today (and, I'd add to that that he is the finest electronica producer in the world and one of few who are really pushing the musical envelope)). André3000 recently said that he was dying to hook up with Squarepusher and get a lesson on the studio! (tho, I think Andre may have blown that one with the naive statement about "just busting a computer open and making some music"!! http://www.youtube.com/wa...Z0LL1SJ-6U But, just watch Tom's bass solo at around 4:50 in - stunning! To I ain't that one
its 2009 kidz trip hop and drum & bass have been dead for years..... music is timeless u can get inspiration from any decade anyway i thoght prince could get some of the influences of these genere and take it 2 another level. some people say funk soul rock hip hop jazz etc is out of date but people r still makin those sounds. i see u got al green as your picture some would find that out of date.

I'm not keen on drum and bass and don't know what trip hop is.
I would take more bass and dance vibes but not the whole package, if I could choose. Dancing to only drum and bass is extremely difficult in my opinion. But some upbeat dance tracks, I'm always game. Well trip hop is slowed down break beats with earie vocals (originally from Bristol UK). see Portishead or Massive Attack.
Drum n bass (Jungle) is fast sped up/chopped up break beats (chiefly 'Amen Brother' by The Winstons). Aswell as the James brown breaks Funky Drummer and Soul Pride. see interesting if a little long investigation of Amen Brother- http://www.youtube.com/wa...-0D66gmLgA like trance music it's basically a creative cul-de-sac, not something prince should touch. so many people assume that drum & bass is chopped up breaks and over-use of the amen break by the winstons, its a load of bollox, not true at all, back in the day jungle was like that, but drum & bass is completely different.

Indeed - lotusflw3r's post above is completely naive! What did you do - go to Wikipedia for that description?! My d'n'b is nothing as described by that poster and neither is squarepusher, aphex twin, amon tobin and many others I could mention - creative cul-de-sac indeed!! Squarepusher's latest album has more musical ideas in one song than Prince has achieved in his last few albums! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I'm pretty sure he doesn't own a single record that could be filed under the "grime" -genre definition.

Risque Well, he's in a very different category of drum'n'bass to the 3 you mention (who I am also very fond of). But, he's light years ahead of those guys in terms of musical complexity, composition and taking music in new directions. And because of his "real instrument" virtuosity (rather than just being a studio whizz!), there would be a fantastic synergy between him and Prince. Some of Squarepusher's music is not easy to listen to - but it is challenging, incredible music - if you really want Prince to take some "heavy risks", he could do no better than hooking up with Tom Jenkinson in my view. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Thanks. Massive attack made a few songs which I didn't mind but I never liked it enough to buy it. I found mezzanine on youtube. It sounds loungy to me. I have enough of that music, in fact an overload. I want something outrageous, loud but groovy. Trip hop is therefore lighter than what it's name suggests. Drum and Bass/Jungle I find too panicky/dizzy making music...So nope Prince, don't follow this genre please. No Way.
Modern dance music has never been his thing. Songs like Melt with U, Loose and Sleep around show he was always YEARS to late when it comes to 'grasping' what was actually happening in the dance-movement. Next to that, his attempts at modern dance-music have mostly been very cheesy sounding. Its just not his genre.

I think Prince doesn't teLly understand as wide a range of music as perhaps we think....hear me out!!! Take the album....jack of all trades master of none. When rave and techno were fashionable he tried his hand at those with the MNIP and Sexy Mf remixes, plus I wanna melt with u. Diluted reggae in Blue light, Breakbeats on Rave. Really all Prince can master is ballads, guitar and funk, and now electropop drum machines,...everything else us just going thru the motions
