Prince's official live album..

If Prince released a new live album of his most popular songs....would you buy it?....would you listen to it so much, that you'ld have to buy a new one cause the first one got worn out?....
OR
because part of being a Prince fan (for me) involves finding the new musical twists he puts into songs when he plays them live (i.e. he could play a song twice and they'd sound different if he wanted them to) would a live album get only so much listening time from you, because it would be the same thing over and over...
I guess what I'm asking is...how much value to you as a fan is Prince's live recordings, and why?

Not the way he releases music now no. I never listen One Nite Alone Live. I'm content with listening to bootlegs to bother with a (probable bland, overdubbed, edited) official release.

I have my favorite live recordings. I actually prefer 'The Rainbow Children' live. I listen to it live much more than the official release. I don't have to listen to so much of the garbage that ruins the album.
Another live album? I'd buy it but I'd have to listen to it.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

After Indigo Nights, I've given up hope that Prince can deliver a decent official live album.

Havve to disagree fellas, I thoroughly enjoyed Indigo Nights, the only downside to it, is that I had to buy the book to get it. Whole Lotta Love, Beggin' Woman Blues & 3121, brilliant.

Just because you enjoyed it doesn't mean it was a good album. We all love a Prince album that is probably seen as crap. Indigo Nights wasn't that fantastic. There's so LITTLE talk about it on the Org. After the initial release of the book...the conversation all but died about it. I don't even remember it garnering a sticky on the forum. Frankly, the book is better than the CD. It's just a picture book, but still more desirable than the CD for most probably.

Yes Ernest. And just because you didn't enjoy it, it doesn't mean it wasn't good.

I would buy live albums of Prince. Especially of what he did in Paris or just live shows where he's on accoustic just doing his thing. Less produced and always a pleasure to listen to. Also probably less polished than a produced cd which only adds to a more natural feel. Everything is so overdone and over processed nowdays.

It's a shame to me that Prince's official live recordings don't at all line up with his live shows, which are unsurpassed.

I'd like to see some older shows officially released. But I hate patch-work live releases, just put one show out, not patched together from different nights.

Indigo Nights was a disappointment.
I've listened to it but once.
Thankfully I love a picture book.

Indigo Nights is the least listened official released album...its even more dissapointing then Planet Earth...yet One Nite Alone..is really very good...underrated imo! (just listen to Joy in Repitition..the guitar work...or Peach...fun!...or...Candy on Nothing Compares to U...or....Adore.....it's good!)..so it really depends on what he is releasing....One Nite Alone is listened to me a lot actually!

"Peach" isn't "Peach" at all. It's some thing he was playing, but it sure wasn't "Peach".

And you don't know which one is the least listened to. I'm not sure there is an official way to figure that out. However, it's probably up there w/ a few other stinkers he's put out.

And he pulled the bait and switch with 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton too. I was stoked to hear a live version of it when I saw the track listing. After hearing it, I was all "WTF?"

It was the same bait and switch (read: LIE) when he advertised everyone's "favorite songs" on the album, yet things like "Condition of the Heart" were unrecognizable, and not even 45 seconds long. Liner notes says it's an "interlude", yet when the commercials and ads for it came down, it NEVER mentioned "Oh, by the way, this song is 39 seconds, and that song is only going to be 66 seconds, and then that one that you really love is going to be a mere 67 seconds. Then I'm going to do one worse and just play a lot of shit that no one wants to hear, and throw on random song titles to TOTALLY fool you. However, I will spend upwards of six or seven minutes talking about Jews, name changing, and calling a former President a 'racist', telling women their place in society, all under a guise of being a devout Jehovah's Witness. I will also take other good songs, and put them in a ridiculous medley that only I could love."

an

I count his video releases and when I take those into account, there's plenty available

Purple Rain Live
Birthday Parade
SoTT movie (yeah, mostly filmed at Paisley but still a good document)
Lovesexy Live
Undertaker - Live at Paisley
Sacrifice of Victor - edit of aftershow but still some nice stuff
Beautiful Strange - edit of Cafe de Paris aftershow but still some nice stuff
Rave Un2 the Year 2000 - ok
Live at The Aladdin

All those have been commercially released at some stage (except maybe Birthday Parade, I've never seen an official copy)
