New RIAA certification

"The Very Best of Prince" was certified gold (500,000+ copies shipped in the US) by the RIAA on 11/12/02.

It's a shame that this compliation sold that much- to this day I refuse to buy it!

Or it could be argued that it's a shame that it sold so little. Pathetic that it even exists.

i think it's kinda sad that it didn't sell anymore than that...

i mean, for a one disc compilation, it does a pretty good job... for most people with a passing interest in prince, this disc would more or less give them everything they want...

and it's not like they didn't try to sell them... they were all over every music store i went in... and the commercials were all over the tv...

i really thought that it would have sold a lot more than that...

I don't think I even bothered to pick up (as in physically pick the cd up with my hand) this cd to even look at it closely. shrug I don't even know the track listing by heart anymore, I just know it's not for such a voracious music lover like me. I'm more of a comprehensive geek than I am a best of/greatest hits geek. There are those artists who only need one or two discs of career highlights. Prince ain't one of 'em.

i picked it up once, just because i'm kind of a completist... and it looked like it was nicely done...

however, because i am a poor competist, i always have to leave certain things like that out... and since i have all of prince's other cds and i don't really have an expendable money, i don't forsee me buying it...

I thought it was Tacky especially considering how back in 93 Warner brothers had already seperated the first two discs.it's good for Prince's Catelog&He will rack up from it over time but it feels so cheap IMHO.when Certain Acts have career's that Represents more than 5-10 Songs worth of Material you don't mind getting a 3 Disc Set.but 1 is Injustice IMHO.

co-sign...It did happen in the era of their falling out. WB wanted to cash in on one of their investments for a final time.

Batdance

If its certified gold, I wonder if Prince will be mailed one of those gold record plaques to hang on the wall?

Wasn't the Purple Rain album certified as a "diamond" album or whatever the certification for selling 10 million?

According to RIAA, Purple Rain was certified multiplatinum, on 2/22/89, at the diamond-equivalent level of 10 million copies. I do not believe they had implemented the diamond category at that time, I could be wrong. They still have it listed as multiplatinum. On 7/11/94, it hit 11 mil, and on 05/16/96 went to 13 mil. Interesting. Too bad all that happened under the graps of WB.
