pardon the newb-ness of my questions, i'm no expert. what TV programme or concert were these two things from?

1. a parody of 'My Name Is Prince' where the words went something like 'this mic's a gun, and i'm attackin'/you know it's bigger than what i'm packin'

2. Prince covering Joan Osborne's 'One of Us' while she looked on from the crowd. IIRC he changed the lyric to 'just a slave like one of us' at one point.

The "My Name Is Prince" parody could have been MadTV or In Living Color. It definitely sounds familiar. Jamie Foxx did a couple of spoofs of Prince, one advertising ass-less jeans.

I don't know of another performance of "One of Us" other than the Emancipation concert on VH1. He was on The Essence awards in 1998, and 28th NAACP awards in 1997. I'm not sure that he performed "One Of Us" on either of those. However, if they showed a clip of the Emancipation show at one of the award shows, and Joan happened to be in the audience, maybe that's what you're putting together in your head, because on Rosie, Oprah, and the Muppets, he didn't do that song.
