Greatest Guitar Solo Ever

Okay, so there is a debate on a youtube video right now, whose name I will not mention, but it is concerned with the "Greatest Guitar Solo Ever"...

Obviously, there are people that agree with this and those that don't. But I wanted to express my own thoughts here, rather than in a youtube comment that would get quickly lost in a sea of immature replies.

Who knows if that was the greatest solo ever? People are arguing that any decent guitarist could do it.

But what I think makes it great is several things. #1 they are covering a George Harrison song, who was nominated that night into the RRHF. Also, George had recently passed away and his son was on stage.

#2 Prince was also nominated that same night.

#3 Prince has been underrated as a guitarist for so long (not to mention typically isn't seen doing rock covers by the mainstream public), so for him to come out in this big way and really tear it up, at this particular moment in time....

Besides the technical proficiency of his playing, I just think the stars were aligned that night to make it an incredible solo in context.

That's all I wanted to say.

Oh, and it gives me chills everytime I listen to it.

Greatest by Prince, or greatest in the history of music?

In either case, there isn't just ONE that is the best. There are those that stand out, but overall...everyone is in a league by itself.

I don't know.

Is there a greatest vegetable of all time? I think it's all relative to the person listening.

Me personally, it might be the greatest of all time simply based on the chill factor.

Certain songs give me chills. This one does it the most.

If I had to say, I'd say the solo in The Question of You. Prince made that damn guitar TALK! I mean it was wicked and I've never held my breath through any song.

Damn near fainted. biggrin

I agree. Empty room at Montreux knocks little spots off this IMO
