I love the 2 Prince cd's too, about 8/10 to both:

but they are definately NOT in my Prince Top 5. eek

remember the strong albums on Warners, 1978-1995.... these are all better IMO.

Meaning: LF / MPLSound are at a place #20 or something..... wink

Lotusflow3r is a fantastic album, MPLsOUND? Not so much.

I find it hard to rank his '80s albums against his newer stuff but for me Lotusflow3r is easily his second best post WB album. (Emancipation being the best)

I only downloaded them today and I've been watching videos.
But I'm listening now and I love the 1st & 2nd track so far on Lotusflower.
I'll update you later. biggrin I don't like comparing cds though as to which of the older ones are better. Each cd that I have, has something specific with favourites that I like.

I like some songs on both albums, but I consider Lotus to be a very dreary album. Certainly it has some awesome and impressive musicianship, but the overall effect is a downer when listened to as a whole. So I rarely do. Broken up into individual pieces and listened to with other things, I can appreciate the songs more.

MPLSound is a huge plastic disappointment to me. It's danceable in parts, but it lacks the sly wit and bombastic energy that defined the Minneapolis sound for me.

I love MPL Sound (except for Valentina). Then LotusFlower (like it less than MPL) and then a couple of songs on Elixer.
But I love love love Dance4Me, play it daily a couple of times, I like listening while walking to work.

I've listened to each by 4 times or so.

I'd listen to them before I EVER put on The Rainbow Children or Musicology, but then again...that's not saying a lot. HA! twocents

That's not bad ... If you've listened to each of them 4 times. How long do you have them? (meaning, listening to each of them 4 times in a 6 months time span or in a let's say 3 day- span)

Just listening to LF. It's starting to grow on me more. Love Like Jazz especially. And I recently used 77 Beverly Park (you know what for and it's completely legal (!) we allways have to fill in the lists so Prince will get his royalties).

A couple of months ago I worked with ProTools for the first time. Only a workshop of a couple of days so it was really just sniffing on what is possible. You can really manipulate everything with funny plug ins. I read somewhere that on this album it was the first time he worked with PT.

*Right now Beverly Park playing again*

I'm really curious about your opinion of the Bria-album

Ernest is probably still a sucker for Prince, even if he thinks everything new of the guy is not very good.

I think I got this album like 2 weeks. I listened to all of it. Some more than others. O yeah, I like track 1 MPL; Never gonna be anyone like me and Chocolate Box too.

I'm listening through by ipod and stereo so don't see the names unless I turn on Itunes. But for the first wave of LF I really like 1 and 2, 4 & 5 (ah so this colonised mind) actually love the guitar in the beginning. Have to love the lyrics though so I can get through the rocky high pitch part razz I'm a bass freak. 6 Will take me some time to really like. 77 Beverley Park, now I know what everyone was on about. Love the deep dark beginning. Sold immediately, it has a Greek element to me, Beautiful track. Like the music of Berlin wall but not grabbing me yet. $ is not not my kind of song & Dreamer is too heavy for me. Album favourite is going to be Love like Jazz for sure!

Going to listen to Bria now. But I know I'm gonna love it. All this love , on YT sold me immediately. Exactly along the lines of "Casual Affair" Adriana Rios a bossa track. Funky, smooth and sexy.

Still here .. but I gotta run in a while. It didn't get to me first ... But do I get this clear? You actually signed up to the LF site? For that 77 dollars everyone is complaining about? And you could download the whole LF album immediately? Tell me what else they give you (maybe I go crazy too and sign up too for my well earned stash of cash).
And what else can you get/see on the site? Spill the beans, baby!
Bye!

Don't bother with DICKy. I actually DO believe he bought it the day it was released. Still spending his cash on Prince. Why I believe it? People often shit talk about the one they love ... And Princey is crying his way to the bank ... on his nice custom made heels.

I don't know what everyone's moaning about. It's 52 euro, I dled the 3 albums in, I don't know 30 mins maybe. Watched a host of gorgeous videos!!!!! Old and new (for me) Don't know anything about the t-shirt and that but if it takes a year to come, so be it.

I presume there'll be more videos put onthere. I'm sure there were 2 bootlegs too there. One official and another with I think Japanese subtitles (?) Gorgeous man! Lots live and I think a part of the Musicology tour. Don't know. But enough videos to get lost for now, I need a search function razz

I am.

MPLSound doesnt reach the quality of the 'original' Minneapolis sound at all.
Just because he uses those synthlines and Linn-drums again, doesnt mean the music is in the same league of his old work.
Compositionwise MPLSound is a very poor album IMO. 'Never be another one like me' and 'Chocolate Box' sound like he is trying to compete with the Black Eyed Peas (why should he???), 'Hey Valentina' is banal, moronic 'kiddie-pop', 'Dance 4 U' is not as strong and convincing as anything on the Camille-album.
Some of the ballads SOUND rather 'stylish' but its not like he has to put much effort in writing and producing that kind of songs, he has done it (way too often) since The Most Beautifull girl in the world.
When it comes to the drumpatterns on MPLSound I would like to say: just because he uses the Linn again, doesnt mean he uses that 'machine' as brilliantly as he did in the eighties. Its not about the sound of it, but about the quality of the programmed patterns. The Linn-beats on MPLsound are mostly very blatant sounding, rather 'samey'. No beat is in the league of those of songs like If I was Your girlfriend, When Doves Crey or the Ballad of Dorothy Parker.

Lotusflower appears more adventurous and experimental on the surface, but when you take a few listens to the album, you (at least I do) notice the same problem MPLSound suffers from: a lack of strong songwriting / compositions.
A song like 'Boom' has rather 'promising' quasi-psychedelic verses, but repeating the word 'boom' as some sort of chorus, is a cheap bid IMO.
Soundwise a song like '$' reminds me of the playfull quirkieness of the Parade era, but the song itself simply isnt as well written and composed as 'Girls and Boys' and 'In all my dreams'.
Another complaint I have about the Lotusflower album is that it all sounds so 'stylish' in a way too controlled, polished way. The guitar-playing is technically good, but it doesnt really touch me (I much more prefer the pissed off angrieness of Chaos and Disorder and The Undertaker). The production is 'tastefull' to a point it doesnt really 'grab me' at all. In that sense it reminds me of boring seventies jazz-fusion, or, even worse, the ultra-slick, polished sounds of veteran artists making big bucks in the Las Vegas circuit.

To conclude:
- On both albums the quality of the songwriting / compositions is mostly mediocre or even poor.
- The production is not really offering any 'relieve' for that: its either to blatant and easy (MPLSound) or too slick and quasi-stylish (Lotusflower).
- I think on both albums he is holding himself 'back', and more or less portraying 'images' of how he thinks he wants to be perceived, instead of really expressing his emotions, doubts and desires. Its like he is trying to reach his listeners through a 'filter', instead of truelly expressing himself.

Hey girl, that's quite a lot! Stupid that I didn't sign up because 52 euro is not that dramatic; I payed 22 euro for the LF album. So that's almost half of that fee. And for 30 euro extra you get some more like a t-shirt (which I don't think I would actually wear but can give it to some kid) and watch videos.
I mean, 52 euro, those people should try living in Western Europe. Having lunch around the corner is almost 52 euro. My coffee habits are at least 52 euro a month.

Was there anymore music to download, apart from the LF album?

Looking forward to your LF reviews; I listened everything again yesterday and I liked it. Wether other people say it's sucks or not.

I love LotusFlow3r. From start to finish, it kicks major ass...Whilst my fav track changes a lot, at the minute it's Feel Better....Mplsound is great too, it just loses momentum too quick. And it's fair to say, despite what the haters think, Bria's albums good too

MPlSound is among the 3 worst Prince albums ever. Worse by far than Planet Earth, worse by far than Rave, as bad as Rainbow Children.
Cringe worthy, cheesy, dumb, dull and unoriginal, with a heavy emphasis on the dumb on unoriginal.
If the original Minneapolis sound was anything like this, i sure as hell would have never become a fan in the first place. This is bad, way worse than 90's bad.

Lotusflow3r at least provides a glimmer of the greatness that proves Prince hasn't completely lost it. "Colonized Mind" "Dreamer" "Back To The Lotus" are great Prince songs regardless of anything.

Yeah, decent Western Europe coffee habits. I love them smile Don't know about extra music am stil navigating my way around.

From Bria's cd I'll take 2,6 & 8 for ipod. Still weighing up Here I come. The good points. It's a good background cd, she has a beautiful voice. The weakness I think is in the lyrics. It's slow so you can hear all. Too predictable. I compare it to "The big calm" of Morcheeba, with Skye Edwards (now solo)as it's one of the only slow cds I can listen to completely. Bria would fit well onto Hed-Kandi lounge cds with other various artists. She's talented for sure. Must still check out MPLsound.

Did you buy LF directly from Amazon.fr with all 3 cds?

Interesting thoughts Riverpoet. Me personally, I don't like $ either. The lyrics and idea are fun but I don't like the beat. I don't know what MPL sound is or technical drum lines but I think pure percussion give a natural vibe. I think Colonised mind, 4ever and Boom are lyrically & musically good. Actually, I hadn't even noticed the boom chorus part, coz I'm just riding out the guitar part waiting for "my" nice part of the song.

The Undertaker clip is one clip on the site that I can't watch, definitely chaos! Angry music to me must be dark with bass and lyrically powerful, rather than electric guitar "killing." smile Different strokes for different folks.

But how can you not like 77 Beverley Park or love like Jazz though? I still need to listen to MPLsound.
