I find a lot of folks actually believed that from the Purple Rain movie. It definitely mislead a lot, who actually thinks Prince's real mother was a White woman.. I found a lot of people saying the same thing that orger PrincQik said, on several websites, until someone replies and let them know that Prince's mother in real life, was a light-skinned Black woman, and not a white woman as many were mislead in the Purple Rain movie. I think whomever decided to have his mother be a white woman in the purple rain movie, did that to attract a white audience. I think people will continue to question his ethnicity based on his complexion, and be mislead that his mother was white because of the purple rain movie. Prince is the same complexion as some of my nieces, and they constantly get asked if they are interracial as well. He's more than likely used to being asked that, and probably tired of it. I found it stereotypical though at that time, that they made Clarence Williams III's character, as Prince's father in the Purple Rain movie, out to be a stereotypical Black father who beats his wife. But hey, that was then, and not much you could do about it now. The movie is already made and remain a classic. As far as mediatakeout.com, that site is pretty trashy anyway. [Edited 10/8/09 14:02pm] I think you make an excellent point about Prince's movie mom being white to attract a white audience but then again, didn't Prince secure his white audience with his crossover hit LRC? I dunno...how can a white woman getting slapped around by a black man be appealing to white people? I think the Fargnoli/Cavoli/Ruffalo or whatever their names were used the interracial couple/domestic violence to further illustrate what "the Kid" is emotionally conflicted and unhappy. They could have just cast a light skinned black couple (like Prince's real life parents). Picture Vonetta McGee as mom. Very pretty and I think she sang in real life as well as acted. Then Adolf Ceasar as Dad. He would have been brilliant because he was a great actor and had a small stature to match Princey. I think an interracial couple was considered more shocking. I mean I don't know how many movies back then showed that. Yeah...maybe it was for shock value and not to draw a white crowd. [Edited 10/8/09 15:44pm]

Maybe he wants to show he favors being in an interracial relationship.Maybe it is all publicity with prince.Just like when he started his band prince wanted an interracial band, and he got one in order to cross over and appeal to a variety of people.Maybe he has the same mindset when he is dating or seriously seeing a woman. Her type of features may all be a publicity stunt for himself.

[Edited 10/8/09 15:44pm] For those who made the movie, it was about profit also. Making money back, and attracting a larger demographic. I agree that Fargnoli and his crew probably wanted to shock the audience or just make it more interesting, by casting his parents in the movie as a mixed couple. They were already working with a crossover artist, so that made it easy for them. It basically attracted a larger and more mixed, demographic, just like Prince did and still does with his music to this day. I think using the leading lady from a different race and background from Prince, was also used as a motive to make the character more interesting. I agree though, that the wife abuse in the movie was a bit disturbing, and the suicidal attempts in the movie as well, was a bit strong. Also, having Clarence Williams III, play a weak, black, frustrated, jealous male character, who couldn't deal with life, was a bit uncalled for really. and a little over-the-top, with some stereotypical play involved. Some actually thought the movie reflected Prince's real life, but in reality it wasn't, caccording to many fans who read information about his life as a young musician starting out.
